More than 20km from the center of Dien Bien Phu city, Muong Phang commune is an important revolutionary base, where the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Headquarters is located.
Also here, General Vo Nguyen Giap and the General Staff made many important decisions that changed the entire situation, creating the Dien Bien Phu victory that "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world."
In the days leading up to the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, the Muong Phang base area is always bustling with visitors.
Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Headquarters is located in the old forest in Muong Phang commune, Dien Bien Phu city.
Here, the headquarters of our Army "stationed" for 105 days (from January 31, 1954 to May 15, 1954). This was the third "station" location and the last location until the campaign ended in victory.
Here, General Vo Nguyen Giap gave instructions and attack orders that were decisive to the victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
Located in the center of the Campaign Command Center is the system of huts and working quarters of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
The General’s hut was as simple and plain as many other huts in the old Muong Phang forest. On the bamboo table, every day, the General and the Command spread out a map to study the war situation, finding a decisive solution to achieve the Dien Bien Phu victory.
After many restorations and embellishments, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command relic has now been embellished with a number of huts and working bunkers with more durable materials to recreate the simple, rustic life of the Campaign Command in the Muong Phang forest.

In Muong Phang, General Vo Nguyen Giap always holds a very special place in the hearts of every local. This land is where the people's feelings for the General are deeply engraved.
The image of the General is always engraved in the mind of every Muong Phang resident. It is also an urge for the ethnic people here to unite and join hands to build an increasingly prosperous Muong.
In the house of Mr. Lo Van Anh in Phang 2 village, Muong Phang commune, the photo of the moment when Mrs. Lo Thi Doi (Mr. Anh's grandmother) took a photo with General Vo Nguyen Giap during his last visit to Dien Bien in 2004 is still hung in the most solemn position in the house.
Mr. Lo Van Anh shared that on the day the General passed away, Mr. Doi just hugged the photo and cried. Before passing away, he also told his children and grandchildren to always remember the General's contributions and make constant efforts to build the village to be more and more prosperous, worthy of the General's contributions and expectations.
In the March days after 70 years of Dien Bien Phu Victory, many groups of visitors from far away come to Muong Phang, to the relic of Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command. Among them, there are former Dien Bien soldiers, veterans or the younger generation.
When visiting the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Headquarters relic, people who come to Dien Bien for the first time or have been to Dien Bien many times all have their own emotions and feelings.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuong in Hanoi is the daughter of a martyr who died in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. Every year, she goes to Dien Bien to visit the Dien Bien Phu battlefield relics, where her father fought and died for the peace of the Fatherland, for the liberation of the country.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tuong emotionally shared: “When my father passed away, I was only 3 years old, so I did not know his face and did not remember anything. I only knew that my father sacrificed his life in the Dien Bien Phu battlefield. Almost every year I went to Dien Bien, some years 3-4 times, just hoping to find my father's grave among thousands of unknown martyrs, but I still have not found it.”
As for Mr. Lu Me Li, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, this is also his third time coming to Dien Bien. Every time he comes here, he takes time to visit the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Headquarters relic.
He felt deeply moved and admired the spirit of his fathers and grandfathers, the Dien Bien soldiers, especially General Vo Nguyen Giap and Chief of Staff Hoang Van Thai, who were primarily responsible for this Campaign.
The simple, rustic camps, located in the old forest, with very difficult material conditions, but created the indomitable will of the Vietnamese army and people. From there, they created the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
According to Mr. Lo Van Hoang, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Headquarters Relic Protection Team, to serve visitors, especially during the peak time leading up to the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, the Team also worked overtime, including at noon, while creating a clean and beautiful landscape within the relic site.
The group also tries to do a good job of protecting the forest and preserving the original value of the historical site.
70 years have passed, Muong Phang today is a red address for tourists when coming to Dien Bien.
From the revolutionary base area, Muong Phang village is increasingly bustling and spacious with the appearance of a new rural commune.
Muong Phang currently has more than 1,200 households with over 5,600 people belonging to the Mong, Thai, and Kinh ethnic communities living in more than 20 villages and hamlets.
Up to now, the average income per capita of the commune has reached more than 45 million VND/person/year.
Total budget revenue in 2023 is estimated to be nearly 11 billion VND, reaching over 99% of the assigned estimate.
By the end of 2023, Muong Phang commune will have only 4 poor households (13 households less than in 2022).
In 2018, the commune successfully completed the National Target Program on New Rural Construction.
Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Phang Commune Lo Van Hop said that promoting the teachings of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Muong Phang Commune always make constant efforts to build their homeland more and more prosperous, people's lives are constantly improved, the poverty rate is reduced, and transportation is convenient.
To continue promoting the traditions of the revolutionary base area, in the coming time, the people of Muong Phang ethnic groups will continue to strive to develop the economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and build Muong Phang to become increasingly rich and beautiful as General Vo Nguyen Giap expected./.
