In the first 6 months of the year, trade surplus reached 11.63 billion USD.

According to the General Statistics Office, the export turnover of goods in June 2024 is estimated at 33.09 billion USD, up 2.6% over the previous month. Of which, the domestic economic sector reached 9.33 billion USD, up 3.7%; the foreign-invested sector (including crude oil) reached 23.76 billion USD, up 2.1%. Compared to the same period last year, the export turnover of goods in June is estimated to increase by 10.5%, of which the domestic economic sector increased by 16.6%, the foreign-invested sector (including crude oil) increased by 8.3%.

In the first 6 months of the year, trade surplus reached 11.63 billion USD.

In the second quarter of 2024, export turnover is estimated at 97.2 billion USD, up 12.5% ​​over the same period last year and up 4.6% over the first quarter of 2024.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the total export turnover of goods is estimated at 190.08 billion USD, an increase of 14.5% over the same period last year.

Of which, the domestic economic sector reached 53.39 billion USD, up 20.6%, accounting for 28.1% of total export turnover; the foreign-invested sector (including crude oil) reached 136.69 billion USD, up 12.3%, accounting for 71.9%.

In the first 6 months of 2024, there were 29 items with export turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 91.4% of total export turnover (there were 7 items with export turnover of over 5 billion USD, accounting for 65.6%).

Regarding the structure of export goods in the first 6 months of 2024, the fuel and mineral group is estimated at 2.29 billion USD, accounting for 1.2%; the processed industrial group is estimated at 166.79 billion USD, accounting for 87.7%; the agricultural and forestry products group is estimated at 16.64 billion USD, accounting for 8.8%; the aquatic products group is estimated at 4.36 billion USD, accounting for 2.3%.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the estimated trade balance of goods had a trade surplus of 11.63 billion USD (the same period last year had a trade surplus of 13.44 billion USD). Of which, the domestic economic sector had a trade deficit of 12.35 billion USD; the foreign-invested sector (including crude oil) had a trade surplus of 23.98 billion USD.

Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports increased by 19%

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 29.2 billion USD, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2023.

Along with that, the total import turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached about 20.92 billion USD. Thus, the trade surplus of the whole industry was about 8.28 billion USD, an increase of 62.4%.

Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports increased by 19%

Of which, exports of key agricultural products reached 15.76 billion USD, up 24.4%; key forestry products reached 7.95 billion USD, up 21.2%; aquatic products reached 4.36 billion USD, up 4.9%; livestock products reached 240 million USD, up 3.8%.

The five commodities with the highest trade surplus include: wood and wood products reached 6.16 billion USD, up 22.5%; coffee reached 3.14 billion USD, up 36.2%; vegetables and fruits reached 2.42 billion USD, up 35.3%; rice reached 2.31 billion USD, up 27%; shrimp reached 1.43 billion USD, up 13.3%.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, there are 7 products and product groups with export value reaching over 1 billion USD: coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, and wood products.

Rice and cashew products increased in both export volume and value. Specifically, rice reached 4.68 million tons (up 10.4%) with a value of 2.98 billion USD (up 32%); cashew reached 350,000 tons (up 24.9%) with a value of 1.92 billion USD (up 17.4%).

Coffee alone decreased in volume to 902,000 tons, down 10.5%, but thanks to the average export price increasing by 50.4%, the export value reached 3.22 billion USD, up 34.6%.

Pangasius export market is currently flourishing.

After many months of sharp decline, pangasius exports are now increasing again. This market is forecast to continue to increase in the last two quarters of the year.

As inventories in many countries are falling sharply, the pangasius export market is currently quite prosperous. For example, at a factory, although it is only the end of June, the unit has signed orders for the whole year 2024.

Pangasius exports are increasing again

Over 746 million USD is the total export turnover of pangasius from Vietnam in the past 5 months, an increase of about 3% compared to the same period last year. The United States is the market with the best consumption with over 120 million USD, an increase of 19% compared to the same period. Next are China, EU, Russia... also increasing the import of this item from Vietnam.

The Government's increased diplomacy and trade promotion, along with the efforts of the entire industry to ensure high-quality products, large quantities and competitive prices, have helped Vietnam's pangasius exports quickly regain growth momentum.

With many big events and festivals coming up, the third and fourth quarters are forecasted to be the time when Vietnam’s pangasius exports will boom in both European and Asian markets.

Tea exports increase in volume and value

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's tea exports in May 2024 reached 9.5 thousand tons, worth 15.4 million USD, down 6.4% in volume and 10.1% in value compared to April 2024; up 2.6% in volume but down 0.7% in value compared to May 2023. The average export price of tea in May 2024 reached 1,625 USD/ton, down 3.2% compared to May 2023.

Tea exports increase in volume and value

In the first 5 months of 2024, tea exports reached 46.2 thousand tons, worth 75.7 million USD, up 19.7% in volume and 17.7% in value over the same period in 2023. The average export price of tea reached 1,639.4 USD/ton, down 1.7% over the same period in 2023.

In the first 5 months of 2024, tea exports recorded a positive growth rate, however, the volume and value of tea exports to the main market, Pakistan, remained on a significant downward trend, reaching 11.7 thousand tons, worth 23.4 million USD, down 18.6% in volume and 11.4% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

The second largest market is Taiwan (China), with exports reaching 5,174 tons, equivalent to 8.46 million USD, priced at 1,636 USD/ton, up 6.3% in volume, up 8.8% in value and up 2.3% in price over the same period.

China is Vietnam's third largest tea export market, reaching 4,661 tons, equivalent to 6.72 million USD, up 180.8% in volume and 63.5% in value. However, because the volume increased faster than the turnover, the average tea export price to this market only reached 1,443.5 USD/ton, down 41.8% compared to the same period.

In May alone, China imported 1,586 tons of tea from Vietnam, equivalent to 2.39 million USD, up 176% in volume and 115% in value over the same period.
