Information about the semiconductor factory was announced at the workshop "Packaging technology, advanced packaging: Opportunities for Vietnam" organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University on March 14.

Vietnam needs a systematic strategy to participate in the global supply chain.

In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, emphasized that the packaging and testing industry (OSAT) plays an important role in the global semiconductor supply chain. However, to become an important link, Vietnam needs a systematic strategy on human resource training, technology development and international cooperation.

"Vietnam has great potential to develop advanced OSAT industry, but to participate deeply in the global semiconductor supply chain, we need to clearly understand the human resource and technology needs of the packaging and testing stages.

More importantly, there needs to be proper investment in training programs, teaching staff, teaching and research equipment, and building a close cooperative relationship between the State - universities - businesses," Mr. Quan affirmed.

Ho Chi Minh City National University is promoting specialized training programs on semiconductors, cooperating with businesses and international universities to improve the competitiveness of domestic human resources.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Tran Kim Chung, Chairman of CT Group, said that the semiconductor industry plays a core role in many high-tech fields, especially in the era of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.

"By 2024, the world will consume more than 1,000 billion chips, equivalent to 125 chips per person - higher than any other technology product, and the growth rate will continue to be double-digit every year. This is a great opportunity for Vietnam to participate more deeply in the global supply chain," Mr. Chung shared.

He informed that CT Group is currently deploying three factories specializing in assembling, testing and packaging semiconductor products in Vietnam. Of which, the first factory will be inaugurated in 2025 on DT743 Street, near the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City National University.

"This factory not only serves production but also creates practical research opportunities for students and lecturers. If supported by the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, we will continue to deploy the second semiconductor factory in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026," said Mr. Chung.

In addition, this unit is also implementing the establishment of 2 research and development centers (R&D) in Ho Chi Minh City (SS1 - Tan Binh project) and Hanoi. In 2027, it will open another factory in the North.

At the conference, a cooperation signing ceremony was also held between Ho Chi Minh City National University, CT Group and Minh Tan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan), opening up opportunities for extensive cooperation in semiconductor research and human resource training.
