Fifty people are searching for two women, 42 and 46 years old, who went missing on the Son La hydroelectric reservoir after their boat capsized due to strong winds.
On the evening of April 18, Mr. Ho Van Thoi, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Ma Commune, Sin Ho District, said that the searchers included police, military, and local people. The search process lasted a day but still had no results.
At around 5:45 p.m. yesterday, a group of five people, including one man and four women, residing in Nam Cha commune, were returning home by boat after working on the cassava field. Due to strong winds and storms, the boat capsized. Three people managed to cling to a plastic can, drifted to Nam Ma commune and were rescued by local people. However, the remaining two people were missing.
According to the leaders of Nam Ma commune, at the time of the incident, it was dark and stormy. The river section is more than 300 meters wide and more than 6 kilometers from the victims' homes, making the search difficult.

The Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said the cause of the thunderstorms on Son La hydroelectric reservoir yesterday afternoon was due to the influence of wind convergence at 5,000 m moving from Upper Laos. That same night, many areas in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North experienced thunderstorms.
In Bac Kan, thunderstorms damaged more than 570 houses and more than 160 hectares of crops, causing losses of about VND5 billion. In Lao Cai, more than 150 houses and 40 hectares of crops were also damaged.
