On September 11, Assistant Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Abdul Hakim Elwaer warned of the food security situation in Sudan due to conflict and severe floods.

About half of Sudan's population has been affected by the conflict, which is also hampering humanitarian aid efforts, Mr. Elwaer said.

FAO is currently working to distribute seeds to Sudan so that the country can produce vegetables and wheat in the coming winter.

FAO has developed a $104 million emergency response plan for Sudan in 2024, focusing on distributing seeds for the entire season.

Previously, the United Nations (UN) also warned of the possibility of famine in some areas of Sudan.

A recent report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) highlighted the severity of the crisis in the country.

However, the Sudanese government has disputed these claims, denying that there are severe food shortages.
