Promoting the potential in agricultural production, Chau Thanh district focuses on promoting the transformation of agricultural structure, contributing to creating momentum for economic growth. The district actively propagates and mobilizes farmers to compete in production and business, boldly applying scientific and technological advances in production, and increasing the value of agricultural products. Chairman of the Chau Thanh District Farmers' Association Truong Ngoc Loi said that in recent years, the District Farmers' Association has focused on innovating and improving the quality of propaganda, mobilization, dissemination of knowledge, and improving agricultural production knowledge for members and farmers. In particular, the movement of farmers competing in good production and business has changed in quality compared to before in the transformation of the economic structure in rural areas. Farmers today are gradually reducing monoculture rice production, renewing their thinking in doing business, and meeting market demands.

Since then, many typical farmers have appeared who dare to think, dare to do, boldly convert ineffective production models, convert crops and livestock, contributing to diversifying production, developing new industries and services in the rural economy. Typical models include: Rice cultivation combined with watermelon cultivation by Mr. Vo Ngoc Trang (Trung Thanh hamlet); rice cultivation combined with agricultural services by Mr. Vo Van Vu (Trung Thanh hamlet), Mr. Duong Thanh Nghiep (residing in Dong Binh Nhat hamlet); Mr. Vo Phuoc Hop, Vo Phuoc Hoi (Dong Phu 1 hamlet) with indoor straw mushroom growing model; vegetable cultivation combined with rice cultivation by Mr. La Trang Kien (Dong Binh Nhat hamlet); automatic irrigation by Mr. Nguyen Minh Bon (Tan Thanh hamlet); effective conversion from rice to fruit trees by Mr. Mai Hong Tam (Dong Binh Trach hamlet); Mr. Nguyen Van Chuan (Dong Binh Nhat hamlet) and Mr. Khuu Van Lan (Tan Thanh hamlet), with 4 hectares applying the "1 must, 5 reductions" program and technical advances to produce rice, annual profit over 100 million VND...

Application of technology in agricultural production

Implementing the policy of converting crop and livestock structure, farmers in Vinh Nhuan commune maintain and replicate typical production and business models, bringing high economic efficiency, such as: oranges, tangerines, mangoes, cucumbers, watermelons, straw mushrooms, soybeans, vegetables of all kinds... The conversion of mixed garden land, ineffective rice land to growing vegetables and fruit trees has received positive response from local farmers.

Thanks to the support and assistance of the agricultural sector and local authorities, Mr. Bui Minh Thang (residing in Vinh Hoa 1 hamlet, Vinh Nhuan commune) said that after a period of research and study, in 2019, he converted 0.2 hectares of land from rice cultivation to durian and almond cultivation, then increased to 1 hectare. In addition, he also boldly invested in an automatic sprinkler irrigation system for his durian garden, to save on irrigation pumping costs. Currently, the model brings high economic efficiency to the family, about 100 - 150 million VND/year. Mr. Thang said: "With the local authorities creating conditions, helping, supporting training in care techniques combined with visiting effective fruit tree growing models, I boldly applied durian cultivation. The model is bringing high efficiency, contributing to improving the family economy".

Identifying the implementation of the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program as a key task in building new rural areas, Vinh Thanh commune focuses on supporting business households and cooperatives to develop local specialty products. The commune has 2 products recognized as meeting the 3-star OCOP standard, which are the vegetarian fish sauce product Co Nanh and tofu skin of business household Vo Thi Yen Phuong (Trung Thanh hamlet). "Participating in the OCOP program, we are guided to expand production, improve the position and competitiveness of products in the market, contributing to increasing the value and reputation of the products. In the coming time, we will continue to improve, innovate, and further enhance our products, aiming to be present in supermarkets, improve quality, and bring our hometown brand further" - Ms. Yen Phuong shared.

In the coming time, Chau Thanh district will restructure the agricultural sector towards high-tech development, associated with exploiting and making good use of local advantages. At the same time, continue to propagate and mobilize farmers to apply scientific and technological advances in production, focusing on organizing high-tech agricultural production... Thereby, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products, increasing competitiveness in the market, ensuring stable output, improving the material and spiritual life of the people, promoting socio-economic development.
