During the Lunar New Year, more than 2,000 engineers and workers put aside their own joys and worked hard on the construction of the horizontal and vertical expressways in the West.
"I'm not home this spring"
During the Lunar New Year, at package XL02 of component project 3, Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, dozens of workers were still working hard.
Worker Doan Van Huynh (residing in Dak Lak province) shared that he is used to celebrating Tet at the construction site. He said that some years he comes home for Tet, some years he doesn't. In total, he has not returned home for Tet for 8 years.
"Last year I was able to return, this year I gave it to the other brothers to return. When I told them the news, my parents were sad, and I was a little sad. But the project's progress is urgent, and not only me but many other brothers are also staying, so we encourage each other to work together. My family also understands and encourages me. If I can't return this year, I will return next year to make up for it," Huynh confided.
Mr. Tran Trung Nghia, Deputy Director of the Executive Board of Trung Nam Construction and Installation Joint Stock Company (Trung Nam E&C) said that Trung Nam E&C is undertaking the construction of package number 2 of the project.
"We are installing girders on four large bridges in the package. This Tet, we plan to work through Tet on these four bridges to ensure the completion of girder installation according to the set schedule.
As for the main route, we have arranged about 10 construction teams to carry out sand and soil reclamation work during Tet," said Mr. Nghia.
According to Mr. Nghia, in the past, the contractor had encountered many difficulties in searching for sand mines. However, thanks to the help of the investor, as well as the Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee and the Government, there are now two sand mines and exploitation has begun. Hopefully, in 2025, the project will speed up the progress of the main line, making up for the past time.
All out push for progress
Similarly, at the construction site of the North-South Eastern Expressway in the 2021-2025 phase, Can Tho - Ca Mau section, more than 2,000 personnel are still "clinging" to the site.
Their Tet holiday is just like any other normal day, no banh tet, banh chung, no mai or peach blossoms, just trucks rhythmically rolling each lane, still welding, pouring foundations, installing beams, pouring concrete for bridges undertaken by their contractors.
"To meet the urgent progress of the project, the contractor still organized construction throughout Tet with the items of roadbed embankment, compaction, and earth filling...
For those who are working at the construction site during Tet, the company is interested in supporting them. In addition to the prescribed regimes, the company's leaders also care by supporting the costs for the brothers," said Mr. Phan Van Tuan, Commander of VNCN E&C Construction and Engineering Investment Joint Stock Company.
According to the site manager, to meet the project's completion date of December 31, VNCN is determined that after Tet, it will mobilize all machinery and human resources, work overtime, and overcome the sun and rain according to the Prime Minister's instructions to bring the project to the finish line on schedule.
Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of My Thuan Project Management Board, said that most contractors have plans to work through the Lunar New Year.
Specifically, the contractors mobilized 2,881 engineers, officers, and workers, and organized 234 teams to focus on roadbed compaction, load-bearing embankment, curb and embankment construction, pile driving, beam placement, and concrete pouring for the bridge deck.
The project is divided into two component projects including Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau. Up to now, the total construction output of the project has reached 58%.
The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway has a total length of more than 188km, passing through four provinces: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang. The total investment is 44,691 billion VND.
The project is divided into four independently operated component projects. Of which, component project 3 has a length of nearly 37km through Hau Giang province. The total investment is over VND 9,601 billion, invested by the Hau Giang Department of Transport. The project progress to date has reached over 34% of the contract value.
