Mr. Tran Duy Quy takes care of his family's mutant orchid garden on the rooftop of Pham Van Dong Street, Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi. Mr. Quy's family's orchid garden is mostly wild orchid varieties.
Mr. Quy's family's mutant orchid garden has many wild orchid pots that are blooming very brightly.
According to Mr. Quy, when building a house on Pham Van Dong Street, his family dedicated the top two floors to build a garden of mutated orchids. After decades of conservation and breeding, the garden now has hundreds of types of wild orchids, including mutated orchids that cost up to hundreds of millions of VND per pot.
Mr. Quy revealed that to take care of orchids effectively, gardeners need to provide the best light for orchids to photosynthesize and develop from the planting stage until the stage when the mutant orchid is about to bloom. Limit the exposure of the plant to direct sunlight for long periods of time. However, it is necessary to use a net to cover the flowers to limit water loss.
Mr. Quy's mutant orchid named Dai Cat has been ordered by a customer at a price of 10 million VND/cm. "Previously, during the mutant orchid "fever", this mutant orchid line was worth up to tens of billions of VND, but now it is only about 100 million VND/pot, depending on the number of eyes," Mr. Quy revealed.
