Hanoi 10th grade exam 2025: Teachers "roll up their sleeves" for students
Talking to Dan Viet Newspaper reporters about the review work for 9th grade students, Mr. Vu Dinh Phuong, Vice Principal of Giang Vo Secondary School, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi shared: "Right after students entered the second semester and before the announcement of the third exam subject, Giang Vo Secondary School proactively planned a review for the students.
In phase 1, the school gives priority to grade 9 students with poor academic results. The school organizes 2 free classes for them after the regular school period. The purpose of this class is to promote academic results so that students can confidently take the 10th grade entrance exam.
Phase 2 is that teachers will review for all 9th grade students of the school, also completely free. Students will focus on 3 subjects for the 10th grade exam after the Department of Education and Training announces the 3rd subject. The school has increased review periods for 3 subjects Math, Literature, English and reduced periods related to Literature, Sports and Arts (switched to online form).

During this period, the school creates all conditions regarding teachers and facilities to consolidate knowledge in the best way for the students. The school does this every year, not just this year.
Phase 3 ends the second semester, before students take the 10th grade entrance exam. This is a rushed, comprehensive review phase. 9th grade students still study at school, and the completed subjects will be replaced by 3 exam subjects: Math, Literature, and English. Teachers further train students in test-taking skills. It can be said that teachers always work hard to help students review for the best results in the 10th grade exam.
Not only that, Mr. Phuong added: "The school invited more experts from the Department of Education and Training to discuss, guide, and train on new points of the exam and orient the school in review work."
It is known that at Giang Vo Secondary School, each student is taught 100 free lessons/3 subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam. In the 2024 10th grade entrance exam, the school is in the top 20 schools with the best results.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, principal of Trung Vuong Secondary School, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, also said that the school has started reviewing for more than 400 9th grade students with "period 0" in the early morning every day. Based on the specific situation, teachers of the 3 subjects of Math, Literature, and English will proactively arrange "period 0" on suitable days, ensuring no more than 2 periods/week.
This model has been implemented for many years, mainly for students whose academic performance is not really confident when taking the exam. In the context of implementing new regulations on extra teaching, in addition to guiding students to review, in this "period 0", teachers strengthen guidance for students on test-taking skills and self-study skills at home.
Ms. Tran Le Khanh, principal of Linh Nam Secondary School, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi, also informed that the school is still following the annual program plan with all subjects to prepare for 9th grade students to graduate from secondary school. In addition, the school provides 6 free lessons per week for 3 subjects: Math, Literature, English to review and consolidate knowledge for students to take the 10th grade entrance exam.
Sharing about the difficulties, Ms. Khanh said: "This year the school has 8 grade 9 classes with 378 students. Like previous years, Linh Nam Secondary School is stronger in the two subjects of Math and Literature. This year, according to the new scoring method, the coefficient is not multiplied by these two subjects, so teachers and students are quite worried because their English is not equal to that of the inner city districts."
Hanoi 10th grade exam in 2025 will take place on June 7 and 8
According to the plan approved by the Hanoi People's Committee, the 10th grade entrance exam for public high schools in the 2025-2026 school year will take place on June 7 and 8. Compared to last year, students will know the third exam subject one month earlier. This is an advantage for students, allowing them to be proactive and have more time to review.
Regarding the exam, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that the entrance exam for grade 10 of non-specialized public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year includes questions that are appropriate to the requirements of the subject and the secondary school level goals of the 2018 General Education Program, mainly in the grade 9 program.
This year, the city will have about 127,000 students taking the secondary school graduation exam, of which public schools will enroll about 79,000 students, the rest will be enrolled in private schools, vocational education - continuing education centers, and vocational education institutions. Specific enrollment targets for each school are expected to be announced in April 2025.
"Hanoi ensures that 100% of junior high school graduates who wish to continue their studies are admitted to high schools, vocational education - continuing education centers and vocational education facilities," Mr. Tran The Cuong affirmed.
