Special film about Vietnamese women's football
In 70 minutes made with many valuable graphics and documents, the film "Vietnam Women's Football: The First Story" by female director Nguyen Thi Tham from the beginning captivated viewers with the strong, vibrant rhythm of the king sport.
Through the stories of witnesses such as former Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City Mai Ba Hung, journalist Xuan Ha - Head of the VFF Communications Department, who are closely involved in women's football, viewers had the opportunity to return to the early days of women's football in the 90s of the last century, when the first girls played football near Ong Lanh Bridge (Ho Chi Minh City).
The precious footage helped viewers recall the accurate prophecy of Mr. Tu Ngu - the late Head of the Sports Department of District 1 (HCMC) Tran Thanh Ngu, who built HCMC women's football into the leading cradle for Vietnamese women's football, with the famous saying: "Trust me, Vietnamese women's football will be present in the World Cup finals before men's football". It was Mr. Tu Ngu who agreed with the late Hero of Labor in the Renovation Period Hoang Vinh Giang to lay the first bricks for Vietnamese women's football in HCMC and Hanoi.

Frame by frame, "Vietnam Women's Football: The First Time Story" recounted memorable moments of the generations of Kim Hong, Ngoc Mai, Minh Nguyet... followed by the "golden generation" of Huynh Nhu, Bich Thuy, Thuy Trang, Chuong Thi Kieu, Hai Yen, Tuyet Dung... who helped Vietnam firmly hold the No. 1 position in Southeast Asia, and as coach Luu Ngoc Mai firmly affirmed: "There is never a story of Vietnamese women's football being afraid of Thailand. Thailand is very easy to beat!".
The burning passion for football has helped each successive generation of Vietnamese female players overcome their prejudices and change the somewhat prejudiced and discriminatory views of the early days. With their victories and emotional victories, they have presented a convincing explanation that girls can also play football well, play football beautifully and win beautifully, touching people's hearts. Together, they have overcome all difficult barriers, with the spirit of solidarity, overcoming difficulties, perseverance, ingenuity, and courage, true to the spirit: "If you play, play until the end!".
Come to the World Cup to admire Vietnamese women more
With their efforts, the investor Vietcontent, the production unit of Viewfinder, together with director Nguyen Thi Tham and the film crew, followed the Vietnamese women's team during their overseas training sessions in preparation for and the historic journey to compete in the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Thanks to that, viewers can feel more clearly the investments, efforts and both joy and sadness of coach Mai Duc Chung and his team when bringing the two words Vietnam to the World Cup for the first time at the national team level.

"This is the story of the Vietnamese women's football team, as a colorful independent character, with an inspiring path, breaking the usual feminist stereotypes on the male-female comparison axis. There is no slogan "Women can do anything men can do". They play football with all the qualities of a woman, uncompromising in every arena. The purest passion is the passion without reference and surpassing oneself", director Nguyen Thi Tham shared.
At the same time, viewers also have the opportunity to witness valuable documents and stories from insiders such as VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan, Coach Mai Duc Chung, assistant Kim Chi or players Huynh Nhu, Chuong Thi Kieu, Tuyet Dung, Bich Thuy, Hoang Thi Loan, Thanh Nha... feeling the suffocating moments of anxiety when the Covid-19 epidemic attacked the whole team during the training session in Spain before the 2022 Women's Asian Cup.
Those pressures were vividly portrayed through the simple but very real stories of the "diamond girls" during the days of quarantine, constantly taking test samples and having to divide the team into groups to fly to India without knowing if there were enough people to play or not. Before everyone exploded after Bich Thuy's golden goal sealed the 2-1 victory over Taiwan, helping the Vietnamese women's football team win a historic ticket.

VFF Communications Vice President Nguyen Xuan Vu shared: "The film is a valuable, emotional document that partly depicts the world of Vietnamese women's football, with its difficulties, but above all, the burning passion of Vietnamese women.
The producer's choice of female director Nguyen Thi Tham shows the intention from the beginning to touch the subtle inner emotions of the girls playing soccer, the joys and sorrows of friends and colleagues, and the teacher-student relationship. I was very pleased when watching the film, I did not see any sadness or pity. On the contrary, we were moved and proud of the spirit of determination to win of Vietnamese women's soccer."
"Vietnam Women's Football, The First Time Story" is distributed by BHD and will be shown from October 18 at 52 cinemas nationwide including BHD, CGV, Lotte and Galaxy. The film is expected to inspire audiences across the country, while honoring the journey of the women's football team as a symbol of the broader struggle of women in society.
