Regarding the article: "After investing in 2 pumping stations worth 30 billion VND, why is Ninh Kieu wharf in Can Tho still heavily flooded?" posted on Dan Viet on October 23, according to Dan Viet reporters today (November 4), Ninh Kieu wharf has been built with additional walls and sandbags to prevent water from overflowing, in order to limit severe flooding when the tide rises.
Accordingly, at Ninh Kieu wharf, a 200m section from the marina area to the Uncle Ho statue will be built with a water retaining wall of about 0.5m, increasing the total height to 0.8m. The 600m section from the passenger wharf to guest house No. 2 will be covered with sandbags with a height of 0.6-0.7m depending on the location.

Previously, during the high tide exceeding the alarm level 3 last October, the Ninh Kieu wharf area was heavily flooded even though 2 pumping stations had been invested in (including 7 pumps, with a total capital of 30 billion VND, invested by the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects using official development assistance funds of Can Tho City (ODA Management Board of Can Tho City)).

According to the ODA Management Board of Can Tho City, the above two pumping stations are the last two projects in the Project to renovate 32 roads in Ninh Kieu District.
The cause of the severe flooding was due to high tides exceeding alarm level 3. At this time, water from the sewer system (which had been invested in for a long time and had not been renovated for many years, including many sewers without covers) overflowed onto the road surface and due to the high water level on the Hau River, it overflowed over the sidewalk into the streets.
"At this time, although the 2 pumping stations are operating with 7 pumps, it is still not enough, leading to flooding of Ninh Kieu wharf" - Mr. Nguyen Van Tho - Deputy Director of ODA Project Management Board of Can Tho City informed.
Mr. Tho clarified that at the time the water level exceeded the alarm level 3, the ODA Project Management Board could only try to support pumping water out of the river to limit flooding. In the long term, to overcome the above situation, the Ninh Kieu District People's Committee must come up with a complete and synchronous solution.

Regarding this issue, it is known that the People's Committee of Ninh Kieu district has also submitted a document requesting the People's Committee of Can Tho city to renovate the embankment area at Ninh Kieu wharf to be consistent with the embankment system in the neighboring area.
As Dan Viet reported, earlier, from the morning of October 16, Can Tho's high tides began to exceed alert level III and lasted until October 21. During this time, there were some days when, in the morning from 6:00 to 8:00 and in the afternoon from 16:00 to 20:00, many roads in Ninh Kieu wharf were flooded. At times, the water level on the roads rose to 50cm, or even higher.
