At about 4:30 p.m. on April 5, a forest fire broke out in Hai Mountain, Chieng An Ward, Son La City, Son La Province.
Vice Chairman of Son La City People's Committee Nguyen Van Than said that as soon as receiving the information, the city leaders mobilized nearly 250 people, including forest rangers, police, military forces of the ward, city and people from neighboring villages, to quickly arrive at the scene to clear the firebreak, contain and control the fire, preventing it from spreading to other areas.
The mountainous area is steep, has dangerous terrain, and has many rolling rocks, making access to the scene and firefighting very difficult, causing danger to the firefighting force.
As of 6:20 p.m. the same day, the forces were still trying to put out the fire; at the same time, 100 more officers and soldiers of the fire prevention and fighting police and mobile police of Son La Provincial Police joined in the fire fighting. Fortunately, a shower of rain appeared and extinguished the large fire.
According to the report of Son La Forestry Department, some areas in the province are forecasted to have forest fires from level III to level V. Therefore, forest owners and people need to strictly comply with the provisions of the law on management, protection, prevention and fighting of forest fires; do not use fire in the forest, burn fields, or cultivate near the forest.
