On September 5, in Pleiku city, Gia Lai province, President Vo Van Thuong visited and worked at Army Corps 15 - a unit with nearly 40 years of carrying out the task of building National Defense Economic Zones in the strategic areas of the Central Highlands and Southern Quang Binh, according to VNA.

Ensuring social security, helping people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty

Also attending the meeting were Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense; leaders of Gia Lai province and village elders and chiefs representing ethnic minorities in the area.

Major General Hoang Van Sy - Commander of the 15th Corps said that the Party Committee and the Corps Command always thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the guidelines, policies of the Party and State and regulations of the Ministry of National Defense; successfully complete the assigned targets, do a good job of mass mobilization, ensure social security, help people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty in the area where the unit is stationed.

The Corps has effectively combined the construction of production models and economic development for ethnic minorities; persistently and persistently guiding, assisting, and "holding hands to help" people change their production methods from manual and backward methods to commodity production.

The unit promotes the application of scientific and technical knowledge for people to access and apply in production, transform the structure of crops and livestock; develop household economy towards commodity production; build and stabilize residential clusters, gradually develop into economic, cultural and social centers, as a foundation for establishing a national defense posture to protect the Fatherland.

Implementing the policies and guidelines of the Party and State and regulations of the Ministry of National Defense, Corps 15 has done a good job in defense diplomacy, regularly organizing visits, exchanges, twinning activities, helping with socio-economic development, contributing to strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Laos and Vietnam and Cambodia.

Praising the results achieved by the 15th Army Corps, President Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated the unit's remarkable development and growth in all aspects.

From a vast land with many remnants of war, the Corps has developed into a large coffee and rubber area; contributing to building a peaceful, cooperative, friendly and developing border.

Emphasizing that the Central Highlands region has a strategic position and is the roof of Indochina, President Vo Van Thuong suggested that the 15th Army Corps continue to thoroughly grasp the military and defense viewpoints and guidelines of the Party, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense, and grasp the Strategy for protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, the Resolution of the Politburo on the direction of socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Central Highlands region until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Along with that, strictly implement training and combat readiness orders, improve the quality of training and exercises; develop and practice combat readiness plans proficiently. Lead, direct, and effectively carry out socio-economic development tasks, military and defense tasks in the new situation and closely coordinate with the Border Guard and the Police force to consolidate a solid people's position, ensuring political and social stability from the grassroots.

The President requested that the 15th Corps continue to perform well and simultaneously the three functions of the army: combat army, working army, and production labor army in the new period; take care of job creation, improve the income and life of officers, soldiers and workers.

The President emphasized that the 15th Corps needs to strengthen the work of grasping the situation at the grassroots level to proactively and promptly report and advise the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to give timely instructions, avoid being surprised, protect the Fatherland early and from afar, and defend the country when it is not yet in danger; and increasingly build a strong relationship between the army and the people like fish and water. Officers and soldiers need to see the motivation to strive in the peaceful life of the people, and the people see officers and soldiers as seeing peace in life.

At the meeting, the President expressed his pleasure to meet and hoped that the village elders, village chiefs, and prestigious people among ethnic minorities would promote the spiritual pillars in the lives of the people, act as the core to launch movements in the area; educate and encourage their children to strive to improve their lives; and take care of their children's education and development.
