According to the Vietnam Blockchain Association, on February 3, the indictment was announced in the Federal Court in Brooklyn (USA). The indictment charged Andean Medjedovic (22 years old, Canadian nationality) with wire fraud, computer attacks, and attempted extortion after stealing about 65 million USD in crypto assets.
The defendant is currently on the run. The case is being handled by specialized units on financial crimes and cyber security, and other international organizations.
Mr. Phan Duc Trung - Chairman of the Vietnam Blockchain Association said that the incident is also a lesson for technology enterprises to continuously improve and ensure the safety of the decentralized financial ecosystem. This is also an example of the adaptability and perseverance of Vietnamese technology startups in the international market.
“Here, I would like to call for solidarity from the Vietnamese blockchain community to bond and share more with each other to promote a healthy blockchain technology community associated with applications that can benefit Vietnam in the new context," Mr. Trung emphasized.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Blockchain Association pledged that the association, along with programs to track fraudulent activities on the web3 space such as Chaintracer, Verichain, Anti-Fraud Society LLC,... and community media channels, will always accompany and support businesses, especially startups, in the process of ensuring transparent, safe and effective operations.
The head of Kyber also said that immediately after the incident, Kyber Network made efforts to fix the problem. To date, Kyber has supported 100% of users' legitimate damages.
Kyber Network is one of the pioneering blockchain projects in the world, completely owned by Vietnamese people, founded in 2017.
