Despite its reputation for top-notch security, iOS is facing an increasingly sophisticated wave of cyberattacks. Android is also at risk, especially as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a powerful tool for hackers.
iOS is no longer a "safe zone"
According to a new report from cybersecurity firm Lookout, 19% of iOS devices in businesses were targeted by at least one phishing attack between January and September 2024, compared to 10.9% of Android devices. However, this difference is not simply a reflection of Android's superior security, but rather the fact that there are more than twice as many iOS devices in the workplace.

Email phishing remains the most common attack method, but increasingly sophisticated tactics are emerging, such as impersonating executives or creating emergency situations to fool employees. In addition, more than 473 million phishing websites have been recorded since 2019, indicating an explosion in cyberattack campaigns targeting business users.
Another factor that makes iOS users vulnerable is Apple's decision to open up its ecosystem in the European Union (EU), allowing third-party app downloads. This could undermine the security capabilities that Apple has long considered a strength.
Challenges from AI
The Lookout report also shows that Android continues to be a top malware target. Malware such as BnkRat and SpySolr target Android users to steal data, posing a significant challenge for this operating system. Cyberattacks targeting Android increased by 17% in Q3 2024, especially in the theft of corporate credentials.
The study notes that good security largely depends on user vigilance and keeping the system up to date, regardless of which device a user uses. This suggests that iOS has clear security advantages due to its closed architecture and Apple’s strict authentication measures. Regular updates continue to play an important role in keeping new threats at bay.
However, experts also warn that in the context of rapidly developing technology, no platform is completely immune to cyber attacks. Therefore, iOS and Android users should be more vigilant, regularly update the system, and avoid clicking on links of unknown origin. Good security does not only depend on the system, but also on the awareness of the user.
