Rex Hotel sent a complaint to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health: The "accused" person spoke up

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí14/03/2025

(Dan Tri) - People who were reported by Rex Hotel to have signs of insurance fraud have informed Dan Tri newspaper about their medical examination and treatment process at hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City.

Regarding the case of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health inviting 5 hospitals to a meeting to resolve the complaint of Ben Thanh Hotel (Rex, belonging to Saigontourist Corporation) about signs of social insurance and health insurance fraud, recently, the "accused" people contacted Dan Tri reporters to provide more new information.

Don't fake sick?

Accordingly, Ms. NTT (born in 1969) and Mr. TAS (born in 1967, both residing in Ho Chi Minh City) said that they were the two cases that Rex Hotel reported to have signs of collusion with medical facilities in Ho Chi Minh City to create fake documents to benefit from social insurance and health insurance. However, both of them denied the above behavior.

Ms. T. told reporters that she has worked at the Rex Hotel for nearly 30 years, and was once the Head of the hotel's Tour Operations Department.

On April 9, 2024, Ms. T. was admitted to Nguyen Trai Hospital due to difficulty breathing and high blood pressure. The doctor diagnosed her with acute bronchitis, gastroesophageal reflux, lipoprotein metabolism disorder, hyperlipidemia, etc. Ms. T. was hospitalized for 20 days and then treated as an outpatient.

From May 2024 to August 2024, Ms. T. continued to be treated 5 times at many departments of Nguyen Trai Hospital (such as Traditional Medicine Department, Internal Medicine Department, Ophthalmology Department), because she was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve root and plexus compression, conjunctivitis, etc.

According to Ms. T., during this process, her workplace unexpectedly cut off her insurance twice (June 1 and August 1), so she had to pay for medical examination and treatment herself many times, with a total amount of more than 4 million VND.

From August 6, 2024 to August 22, 2024, Ms. T. went to the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Traditional Medicine to treat osteoarthritis and neck pain. On August 23, 2024, the woman went to the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Traditional Medicine for treatment.

During her treatment, on August 31, 2024, Ms. T. received a notice and decision from Rex Hotel to unilaterally terminate her employment contract. Accordingly, Rex Hotel claimed that Ms. T. had taken 8 consecutive days off (August 23-30, 2024) without being able to prove a legitimate reason as prescribed.

According to the woman, the above content is incorrect, because on August 4, 2024, she submitted a request for long-term sick leave, which was confirmed by the hotel in an official letter. After that, each time she was sick, Ms. T. called or texted a representative of the Tour Operations Department to inform her of the treatment situation.

On September 30, 2024, Ms. T. sent a petition to Saigon Tourist Corporation (Saigontourist) and Rex Hotel, to complain that the unilateral termination of her labor contract while she was undergoing medical treatment was illegal, but received no response.

"All the time I went for treatment, it was for the right illness and right records," Ms. T. affirmed.

Hope the authorities clarify many issues

Mr. TAS shared that on May 9, 2024, he went to Military Hospital 175 for a check-up and was diagnosed with cervical disc herniation by the Physical Therapy Department, and was prescribed treatment from then until May 22, 2024. During this time, he had a certificate of leave from work to receive social insurance.

During May-June 2024, Mr. S. had two more examinations and treatments at Military Hospital 175, with many other diagnoses.

But from June 1, 2024, Mr. S.'s insurance was cut off by the Rex Hotel, so the man had to pay many hospital fees himself and had to buy his own family health insurance for medical treatment.

From June 17, 2024, Mr. S. entered the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Traditional Medicine for treatment. At the Department of Cardiology - Neurology, he was diagnosed with cervical disc lesions and had 3 treatment sessions there.

From July 30, 2024 to August 24, 2024, Mr. S. was admitted to Go Vap District Hospital for physical therapy. On August 26, 2024, Mr. S. was admitted to Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Traditional Medicine, with a diagnosis of cervical disc disease and a series of other accompanying diseases (such as sleep disorders, cervical radiculopathy, etc.).

On August 31, 2024, while undergoing treatment, Mr. S. received a notice and decision to unilaterally terminate the labor contract of Rex Hotel, on the grounds that he had taken 9 consecutive days off (from June 7, 2024 to June 15, 2024) without being able to prove a valid reason.

Ms. T. and Mr. S. believe that the unilateral termination of their contract by Rex Hotel is inappropriate (Photo: Hoang Le).

Mr. S. also thinks this is unreasonable. Since the beginning of his treatment, he has reported to his workplace and sent documents after each treatment. Since August 6, 2024, he has submitted a request for long-term sick leave and has been confirmed by the Rex Hotel.

Reflecting the above information, Ms. T. and Mr. S. affirmed that they did not commit fraud, did not fabricate false evidence, and did not pretend to be sick to take advantage of social insurance.

They want the authorities to clarify whether the Rex Hotel's cutting of social insurance and unilateral termination of the employee's contract while he was being treated at the hospital was in accordance with the law.

Since January, Dan Tri reporters have contacted a representative of the Front Office Department of Rex Hotel to inquire about the above reflection. This person said that he has forwarded the information to the relevant department and will proactively contact the reporter.

However, up to now, Rex Hotel has not given any response.

As Dan Tri reported, on January 14, the Inspectorate of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health invited a number of medical facilities to attend a meeting to resolve the Rex Hotel's complaints about individuals (company employees) who showed signs of collusion with medical facilities to profit from social insurance and health insurance.

Invited medical facilities include Military Hospital 175, Go Vap District Hospital, Nguyen Trai Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Traditional Medicine and Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Traditional Medicine.

According to the Inspector of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the meeting was convened to provide detailed information about the Rex Hotel's reflection so that hospitals could review records, verify the incident, and then have appropriate handling directions.

Speaking to reporters, leaders of some hospitals invited to the meeting said that, through review, they found that the medical examination and treatment histories of the patients involved were all "correct people, correct diseases" and in accordance with regulations.
