At a regular press conference on May 9, in response to Thanh Nien Newspaper's question regarding information related to the recent incident of Quang Binh fishing boats in distress at sea and citizen protection work in this incident, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that so far, according to available information, the forces have rescued 13 fishermen, found one dead fisherman and are actively searching for the remaining 10 fishermen.

"Immediately after receiving the information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately worked with the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi and directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing to inform the Chinese search and rescue agency. Vietnam requested that China increase the dispatch of necessary forces and means to conduct search and rescue of the missing fishermen," said Ms. Hang.

The spokesman affirmed that Chinese authorities have also sent vehicles to coordinate with Vietnam to support search activities.

Also at the press conference, in response to information that Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol affirmed that his country has not neglected to provide information about the Funan Techo canal project to Vietnam, both officially and unofficially, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang affirmed that the information Vietnam has at this time is not enough to assess the impact of this project.

"Vietnam hopes that Cambodia will continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam and other countries in the Mekong River Commission to fully share information about the project and conduct a detailed assessment of the project's impacts on water resources and the ecological environment of the Mekong sub-region," Ms. Hang affirmed.

On the same day, answering a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's opinion on the May 8 hearing of the US Department of Commerce, Ms. Pham Thu Hang said that at the hearing, Vietnam clearly stated arguments, information, and data affirming that Vietnam's economy fully meets the criteria of market economy status, and emphasized that Vietnam's economy is even doing better than many economies that have been recognized as market economy status.

To date, 72 countries have recognized Vietnam as having a market economy, including large economies such as the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan... Vietnam has participated in 16 bilateral and multilateral FTAs with more than 60 partners, spread across all continents.

"The US's early recognition of Vietnam's market economy will contribute to concretizing the commitments of the two countries' senior leaders, strengthening the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, thereby promoting economic and trade relations, bringing practical benefits to businesses and people of the two countries," said Ms. Hang.
