VnExpressVnExpress17/04/2024

The National Startup Index Report provides a comprehensive picture of the startup ecosystem, analyzing the development trends of startups - a new type of business based on science and technology.

The announcement ceremony of the National Startup Promotion Index Framework Report and the launch of the Startup Research Institute was held on the afternoon of April 17. The report was developed and published for the first time this year by the Startup Research Institute, under the National Startup Association.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen An Thinh, Deputy Director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship Research, said the report will be published annually, identifying the comparative advantages of Vietnam's startup ecosystem compared to other countries in the region and the world.

The report also analyzes the development trends of the startup ecosystem, potential startup industries and fields that will thrive in the future. In addition to attracting investment for startups, the report contributes to building a knowledge-based and innovative economy, improving competitiveness, and encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit among young people.

The index report consists of 5 parts, analyzing the reform and startup trends in the world in 2024 along with a set of national startup criteria. Localities, industries and fields of the year and startup faces are also introduced.

Mr. Thinh added that the report identifies 12 standards, divided into criteria for examining and calculating the startup index, under the advice of the Association and national chapters monitoring global startups, research institutes, universities and independent experts from the US, UK, and Korea.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh said that to escape the middle-income trap, Vietnam has chosen to adjust its growth model based on science, technology and innovation. "The key factor to achieve this goal is enterprises. Vietnamese enterprises have become the driving force for applying science and technology and developing the socio-economy," he said.

However, he said that the 4.0 technology revolution with technology and innovation will present unprecedented problems. New business models and new technologies have extremely fast application. He cited that in the past, it was difficult to imagine that GPT chat could write a master's thesis within an hour or AI applications... this puts the responsibility on Vietnamese businesses to apply science and apply technological advances as quickly as possible.

Deputy Minister Hoang Minh said that the Ministry of Science and Technology, as the focal point for state management of innovation, focuses on supporting scientists, research institutes, and businesses. The Ministry will continue to support startups in building standards for goods, determining competitiveness or tools to determine intellectual property and ownership value. In addition, the Technology Innovation Fund also supports businesses in accessing capital, technology, and information for production and business.

He assessed that "the establishment of the Startup Research Institute is the right direction, contributing to supporting the creative startup business force based on science and technology".
