On February 10, 2025, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam in New York, attended the annual meeting of the Executive Council of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) as a member of the Executive Council for the 2025-2027 term.
This is the first meeting of the UN Women Executive Board in 2025 to discuss improving operational efficiency and orientation for developing the Strategic Plan for the period 2026-2029.
Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang stressed that the meeting was an important occasion for member countries and the UN to assess the progress made, draw important lessons, propose effective and timely solutions to challenges, and share some priorities to promote global gender equality.

The Ambassador said that in the current context, it is necessary to promote the participation and contribution of women in the fields of science, technology and innovation... It is necessary to allocate resources more effectively to essential areas such as health, education, conduct gender impact assessments, set specific and clear goals, and promote transparency in budget spending to contribute to improving actual efficiency.
The Ambassador stressed that implementing targeted measures such as regulating the rate of female participation, leadership training programs and support policies to ensure work-life balance are essential to create conditions for women to promote their roles and contribute more in policy planning and decision making.
On this occasion, the Ambassador shared and highlighted the efforts and positive results Vietnam has achieved in ensuring gender equality, especially the high rate of female National Assembly deputies and female scientists, and the early adoption of a National Strategy on Gender Equality for the 2020-2030 period.
Vietnam affirms its readiness to cooperate with UN Women and Executive Council members to contribute to the international community's common efforts to promote gender equality and accelerate the implementation of the SDGs, so that no one is left behind.
The UN Women Executive Board, consisting of 41 member states, elected on a geographically distributed basis, is the body responsible for overseeing and guiding the organization’s activities. The UN Women Executive Board plays an important role in promoting policies and programmes to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls globally, and supporting member states in implementing gender-related sustainable development goals. Vietnam was elected a member of the UN Women Executive Council for the 2025-2027 term and officially assumed this role from January 1, 2025. |
