On March 15, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan had a working session with scientists in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fisheries to discuss the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation into practice. The meeting emphasized the spirit of cooperation, promoting scientific research for sustainable agriculture, improving farmers' lives and moving towards a sustainable development future for future generations.
Science must be close to production practice.
Speaking after listening to scientists report on the implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan said that over the past 4 years, as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, he has had the opportunity to work with research institutes, universities, scientists and farmers across the country.
"Now, with a new mission - building and implementing policies for the development of science, technology, and innovation - I hope to continue to work with my colleagues to bring science closer to production practices, so that "science must reach the fields", as the spirit we have always pursued," said Mr. Le Minh Hoan.

Emphasizing that the world is entering a new era, where science and technology are not only a part of life but also a decisive factor in the future of each country, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly said that if we only rely on traditional experience, using only our hands and old farming habits, our country's agriculture will hardly be able to compete and develop sustainably in the context of globalization and climate change.
Recently, Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation of the Politburo affirmed: Developing science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation is the top important breakthrough, the main driving force to rapidly develop modern productive forces, perfect production relations, innovate national governance methods, develop the socio-economy, prevent the risk of falling behind, and bring the country to breakthrough development and prosperity in the new era.
Reiterating the request of General Secretary To Lam at the National Conference on Science and Technology Development that "science must enter life, must serve the people, must become the driving force for national development", Mr. Le Minh Hoan said that our task is not only to research to create knowledge, but more importantly, to turn that knowledge into products, into practical solutions, helping farmers get rich right on their homeland.
Keep science from being stuck in the lab
According to Mr. Le Minh Hoan, in the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution, artificial intelligence (AI) is opening up unprecedented opportunities for agriculture. AI can effectively support from analyzing big data, accurate weather forecasting, optimizing production processes, to monitoring plant diseases...
"Imagine a farmer who can use an application on his phone to scan images of leaves and immediately know if the plant is infected with pests or diseases. A shrimp farm can automatically adjust the amount of food and water temperature thanks to an intelligent AI system. A scientist can analyze millions of soil samples in just a few minutes, finding the most suitable breed for each region's natural conditions... That does not mean that AI can replace humans. AI will be a tool to support humans, helping them make better, faster, and more accurate decisions," said Mr. Le Minh Hoan.
However, no matter how excellent a research is, if it only exists on paper, only in scientific journals, it cannot be called a success. Science is only truly meaningful when it helps life, when farmers can apply and benefit from it.
"So how can we prevent science from being stuck in the lab? How can we prevent farmers from seeing science as something far away?". Raising this issue, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly hopes that scientists need to listen more to understand the real needs of farmers, and cooperate closely with businesses to put research into production. Science policies must be more practical, and administrative barriers must not slow down innovation. Universities and research institutes need to train a more practical younger generation. Graduates must not only be good at theory but also know how to turn knowledge into economic value.

Resolution 57-NQ/TW has set out major orientations, but what is more important is how to put this resolution into practice, creating a real turning point in scientific research and innovation. Mr. Le Minh Hoan hopes that scientists must "live" with Resolution 57-NQ/TW and Resolution 193/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly piloting a number of special mechanisms and policies to create breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. Research institutes, universities, scientists and farmers across the country need to continue to respond to the spirit of these two important Resolutions, transforming the spirit of the Resolution into "scientific research products", and incorporating them into each subject on science and technology.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly suggested: "Let's do science together not for beautiful reports, but for sustainable agriculture, for prosperous farmers, for the future of our children."
