The film "Glorious Ashes" by director Bui Thac Chuyen has been selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to compete in the preliminary round of the Oscars.

According to Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Department of Cinema, the reason "Glorious Ashes" was chosen is because the film received the most votes from the National Council.

Director Bui Thac Chuyen expressed his joy when the film was selected, but he did not expect the film to go further in the nomination rounds at the Oscars.

"Glorious Ashes" will be released in December 2022, after 7 years of preparation. Director Bui Thac Chuyen spent 2 years writing the script and 5 years preparing for the film, with many field trips to the West to find staging materials and settings.

The film is based on two short stories "Glorious Ashes" and "Rotten Firewood Floating Back" by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu.

The film revolves around the love and marriage stories of three women: Hau (Bao Ngoc Doling) is ignored by her husband, Nhan (Phuong Anh Dao) accepts her husband burning down her house over and over again, and "crazy" Loan (Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy) falls in love with her enemy.

In early September, the film won the highest award in the film category at the Kite Awards in Nha Trang. Bui Thac Chuyen also won the award for Best Director.

Previously, the project won the highest award - Montgolfière d'or (Golden Balloon) - at the Three Continents Film Festival in late November 2022 in France.

This is the first time Bui Thac Chuyen has had a film selected to represent his country at the Oscars. However, he has participated in many international film festivals and awards.

In 2000, his short film "Night Ride" won the Cinéfondation for Young Filmmakers category at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2009, he won the Fipresci Prize at the Venice International Film Festival with the film "Choi Voi"...
