On February 24, according to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, from mid-March, the Department of Education and Training will conduct online competency surveys for students in grades 3, 7, 9 and 11 of public and private schools. In particular, the Department of Education and Training will survey the application competency of students in grades 3 and 7; and survey the foreign language competency of students in grades 9 and 11. It is known that each grade has about 100,000 students.
Accordingly, the survey of student capacity has been conducted by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City for many years to evaluate the results and quality of teaching and learning of students and teachers. On the basis of proposing solutions to promote strengths and overcome weaknesses in teaching and learning.
Specifically, 3rd graders will take a computer-based test on March 14. The test is designed in an integrated manner, including 20 questions (10 math questions, 10 Vietnamese questions) about basic knowledge and students' ability to apply knowledge to real life through the subject, with a test duration of 40 minutes.
Grade 7 students take an online survey (60 minutes) at the end of the second semester in the form of an objective test with 40 questions, assessing application skills through the following subjects: literature, math, English, natural sciences, history and geography, and civic education. 100% of grade 7 students in and out of public schools participate in the survey using computers or devices such as tablets and smartphones.
In April, grade 9 and grade 11 students will take an online English proficiency test in the standard format of Cambridge Assessment English, including listening, reading, and writing skills. The test lasts 90 minutes and 100% of grade 9 and 11 students at public and non-public secondary and high schools will participate in the test on computers or smart devices.
Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the results of the student capacity survey are only used for analysis and research purposes, and schools absolutely do not use them to compare, classify, or evaluate students and teachers. At the same time, it is the basis for professional groups to delve into professional activities more effectively, ensuring that the periodic test questions are in line with the development of students' qualities and capacities according to the goals of the 2018 General Education Program.
Speaking more about the objective of the foreign language proficiency survey, the person in charge of professional work of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City emphasized that the survey aims to evaluate according to the output standards of the government's foreign language project. At the same time, it aims to evaluate the quality of students, maintain and improve foreign language proficiency for students in Ho Chi Minh City.
