Information that the young Vietnamese table tennis team's athletes are not guaranteed nutritious meals is attracting special attention from the media and social networks.
According to press reports, despite the standard of 320,000 VND/day according to the regulations of the Ministry of Finance, the table tennis team's athletes are said to be served substandard meals, with few dishes, lacking in quality, and insufficient nutritional content for training and competition.
The above information has created a strong wave of public opinion. On Thanh Nien newspaper, reader NDL commented: "Too sad. This is not a new problem for the Department of Sports and Physical Training to grasp, but has been around for a long time, not only for table tennis but also for other sports such as badminton. Even the most basic thing like meals cannot be met, so what about other issues?" Reader DN commented: "Trace the money flow, verify the beneficiaries. Violations should be handled or prosecuted."
On October 3, the Department of Sports and Physical Training verified the information posted in the press, while working with coaches, athletes, team leaders as well as the logistics department at the My Dinh National Sports Complex, where the Vietnamese youth table tennis team lives and practices.
Based on the verification results, the Department of Sports and Physical Training will seriously rectify and overcome existing problems in the management and training of the teams in general, and the national youth table tennis team in particular, and at the same time explain to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. If any individual is found to have committed a violation, the Department of Sports and Physical Training will request strict handling in accordance with the law.
On October 3, the leaders of the Department of Sports and Physical Training also directed the transfer of the national youth table tennis team to train and arrange accommodation at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi.
In the case of the youth table tennis team, there are many notable details that need to be verified to clarify the management responsibilities of each individual and group.
For example, according to press reports, the monthly food allowance for athletes is transferred to the athletes by the Hanoi National Sports Training Center, who then transfer it to the kitchen at My Dinh.
However, coach Bui Xuan Ha of the Vietnamese youth table tennis team was the one who received the money on behalf of some athletes, then transferred it to the kitchen.
Responding to the press, Mr. Bui Xuan Ha said: "We have known the information reflected and the coaching staff has worked very openly and transparently to verify the information. The athletes of the team are training and enjoying the prescribed nutritional regimen and there has been no violation. We will report to the Department of Sports and Physical Training."
According to Thanh Nien 's investigation, among the athletes of the youth table tennis team, there are some athletes who no longer have parents. So they ask their coaches to receive their salaries on their behalf. The salaries are transferred to the coaches, and at the end of the year, the coaches will take them out and send them back to the athletes. As for the remaining athletes, the money will be transferred to their parents' accounts. However, this information still needs the involvement of management agencies to verify and clarify.
A coach said that the sports industry needs to review how many teams are training outside of national sports training centers. Is the situation that the press has reported happening in these teams?
The incident in the youth table tennis team raises questions about the management and administration of the teams. Is there any overlap or laxity in the responsibilities of individuals and organizations in authority, leading to the disadvantaged being the athletes who are working hard day and night to practice and compete to bring glory to the country?
