Cool green U Minh
Ca Mau is associated with the name U Minh Ha, where the land has a season that cannot be confused with anywhere else. Because of its interesting and romantic characteristics, bringing prosperity and creating a heroic spirit for the people of U Minh, it is the rainy season, when the forest is full of water.
In the rainy season, the water level of U Minh forest rises, the cajuput forest is vast and green all around, it is also the season when many products here grow and flourish, creating the unique cultural features of U Minh land. The rich and abundant natural products are only found in the U Minh forest with rising water and falling rain.
After the harvest, the U Minh people welcome the rainy season in the forest by rowing boats to set nets, set traps, set traps, set traps, set traps, set bait... to catch fish, frogs, eels, turtles, snakes. Or leisurely carry baskets into the forest to pick water lilies, choai shoots, water spinach, water chives... to eat. Even such natural products of the forest can improve the family's income.
Mr. Pham Duy Khanh, Hamlet 4, Khanh Binh Tay Bac Commune, Tran Van Thoi District, owner of Muoi Ngot Eco-tourism Site, said that the rainy season is also the season when products under the forest canopy flourish to contribute to the prosperous and rich life of the people here. Enjoying the blessings of the forest, the U Minh Ha forest workers are determined to preserve the traditional profession of "first-class forest clearing" that their ancestors established and passed on to future generations.
“There are all kinds of wild vegetables this season, just a little wave of your hand and you will have a bunch of mixed vegetables. Add some wild fish and eel from last night, and you have a fish sauce hotpot, sour hotpot in the rustic style of the U Minh forest land.”
Get rich from forest products
Under the canopy of the rain forest, people sit together with a basket of fresh wild vegetables, a copper hotpot exuding the flavor of the homeland, just touching it with the eyes is enough to satisfy the craving. Take a sip of spicy wine, add the salty taste of fish sauce, dispel the cold of the rainy season, feel the warmth of humanity of the Southern land.
Understanding the feelings and joys of Ca Mau people in the rainy season, Mr. Khanh has been doing tourism with the wish that all tourists coming to U Minh can experience that feeling.
Coming to Muoi Ngot Tourist Site, visitors will become a real U Minh Ha farmer. Enjoy the feeling of “breaking through the forest” as a character of a forest worker in the past in “Dat rung Phuong Nam”, or simply relieve stress with the immense green of U Minh Ha.
Here, visitors can row their own boat to pick choai shoots and pick the fruit of the dragon fruit in the forest. Or roll up their pants and carry their bags to the edge of the forest, anxiously waiting after the night rain, the bags are heavy with fish, if lucky, they can also catch a turtle or a snake. Many people choose another way, carrying a fishing rod and wading all day in the forest, carrying the belief that they will catch a few kilos of big snakehead fish.
Mr. T., a famous doctor in Ho Chi Minh City, said that during the rainy season, he often "escapes" the noise of Saigon by going fishing in U Minh Ha for a few days. He drives a car a few hundred kilometers here by himself, carrying a bunch of dry food to spend the whole day diving in the forest. "Some days, I only catch a few small snakehead fish, but other days, I catch dozens of kilos of snakehead fish and catfish. I put them in a box and bring them home to eat, and give some to my friends. I'm tired, but I'm extremely happy because I get to enjoy the feeling of being a true U Minh forest worker," said Mr. T.
The direction of sustainable tourism
Ca Mau has two freshwater and salty ecosystems represented by Mui Ca Mau National Park and U Minh Ha National Park, which are classified as World Biosphere Reserves. In addition to traditional products, recently organized community-based ecotourism products have also created more options for tourists, contributing to diversifying Ca Mau tourism products. Mr. Tieu Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ca May province, said that in recent years, Ca Mau tourism industry has had many successful breakthroughs, one of which is the choice to develop ecotourism associated with nature and traditional craft villages. In which, the feeling of excitement of tourists when entering U Minh Ha forest in the rainy season is a unique strength to attract tourists.
“Accordingly, Ca Mau province focuses on developing eco-tourism, especially developing community tourism with tours going deep into the forest and coastal alluvial plains for tourists to enjoy. At the same time, organizing experiential tourism forms so that tourists can feel the difference in landscape, the new feeling compared to many places in the country and in the world.”
