US General VanHerck confirmed the existence of the above investigation to CBS on November 29 (US time). Mr. VanHerck said the investigation was initiated after he received recent information from the media.
USA Today reported on November 29 that a secret daytime bar called the "John Wayne Saloon" has been operating inside the NORAD and USNORTHCOM headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado (USA).
Mr VanHerck added that he then ordered inspections of the workplaces and that a “relatively small number” of beer and wine containers were recovered in “an undisclosed workplace”.
Mr VanHerck said alcohol is not completely banned in the workplace, but there are approval processes for when and where alcohol can be consumed. He said the investigation will also look into whether alcohol was consumed during work hours or while service members were on duty.

US Gen. VanHerck told CBS that his preliminary assessment was that there was no cultural issue or impact on readiness related to alcohol. He said the investigation could take several weeks.
NORAD is the joint military agency of the United States and Canada to provide warning and air defense of the two North American countries, while USNORTHCOM provides defense services, civil assistance and security cooperation to protect the United States.
