Báo Kinh tế và Đô thịBáo Kinh tế và Đô thị03/02/2025

Drink plenty of water

Alcohol is a diuretic that causes dehydration. Drinking plenty of water will help replace lost water and help your body eliminate toxins quickly.

People who are drunk should drink plenty of water to help the body have enough fluid to excrete alcohol and its metabolites through urine, helping the alcohol excretion process to be quick and preventing dehydration due to vomiting.

If you don’t have time to prepare, just drink plenty of water. This is the simplest and fastest way to sober up.

Electrolyte Supplement

In addition to filtered water, drunk people can drink other types of water such as: thin rice water, rice water, soup, sugarcane juice, fresh coconut water... to help provide water and electrolytes, reduce nausea and prevent hypoglycemia when drunk.

For people who are drunk and vomit a lot, causing electrolyte and acid-base imbalance, drinking ORS solution according to instructions will help balance electrolytes safely and effectively.

Eat snacks

After drinking alcohol, if sober, drunk people should eat light, liquid foods rich in carbohydrates such as: thin porridge, soup, pho or biscuits, bread... to provide energy for the body, soothe the stomach and prevent the risk of hypoglycemia.

Lie down

Lying down and sleeping will help the body recover and eliminate toxins more effectively. However, family members should note that they should not let the drunk person sleep without eating anything. Every few hours, they need to wake them up to check their health condition, give them water or food to prevent hypoglycemia.

Monitor the condition of drunk people

During the process of caring for a family member, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the drunk person. If the drunk person falls into a state of: Decreased consciousness, not knowing when to call; wheezing, weak breathing, irregular breathing, slow breathing or stopping breathing; Purple or pale skin, lips, and fingernails, cold; Frequent vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating; Incontinence; Numbness, weakness in limbs, slurred speech, blurred vision; Signs of convulsions... need to be taken immediately to the nearest medical facility for timely emergency care.
