Báo Giao thôngBáo Giao thông05/11/2024

Checking the light of the car's lights is one of the important items in the motor vehicle inspection process. If the lights installed on the car are not the correct color, the car will fail the inspection.

Giao thong Newspaper's hotline received a question from a reader about the problem of a broken front light on a personal car. Is it possible to install a replacement light that is blue and white?

Car owners should note that when changing the lights on their cars, they must comply with the regulations on light color to avoid traffic safety risks and failure to pass the vehicle inspection (illustrative photo).

Regarding this issue, a representative of a vehicle inspection center in Hanoi said that Circular 30/2024 regulating motor vehicle inspection clearly states that checking the light of the car's headlights is one of the items in the motor vehicle inspection process.

At the same time, each type of light will have its own regulations on light color according to national technical standards on technical safety quality and environmental protection for automobiles, to ensure traffic safety.

Specifically, for front lights (high beam, low beam), the light color of both sides must be white or yellow.

Signal lights such as: size lights, brake lights, reverse lights, license plate lights, light color must be white or yellow.

Turn signals and hazard lights, the color of the front lights is yellow, the rear lights are yellow or red.

For brake lights, the light color must be red, the light color of reverse lights and license plate lights must be white.

Fog lights, if installed additionally, must have white or yellow light color to ensure technical requirements.

In case of replacement lights installed and the light color does not comply with the above regulations, the car will fail the light inspection and fail the vehicle registration.

Thus, in the case of the reader of Giao thong Newspaper, the front lights are blue-white, not both white or yellow, which is not in accordance with regulations, the car will not be granted a registration certificate or inspection stamp. The car owner must take the car to be repaired, install other lights in accordance with regulations and take the car to any registration center for re-inspection.

The inspector will also warn of damage errors, defects in vehicle lights of incorrect type, or incorrect light color on the warning software of the Vietnam Register to notify other inspection units if inspecting this vehicle.

Speaking more about the blue-white light that a reader of Giao thong Newspaper asked about, a representative of the inspection center said that this could be a xenon light. This type of light has a very high light intensity, 5-6 times higher than normal lights. When turned on, this strip of light emits white light, causing glare to oncoming people, posing a very high risk of traffic safety.

Therefore, it is recommended that vehicle owners should not install this type of light, as it does not ensure the technical safety of the vehicle, may fail the vehicle inspection during periodic inspection, has a high risk of traffic accidents, and may also be inspected by the traffic police and administratively fined for changing the vehicle structure.

Specifically, Decree 100/2019/ND-CP stipulates a fine of VND800,000 - 1,000,000 for driving a car using improper headlights while participating in traffic. In addition, the driver will have his/her driving license revoked for 1-3 months and must restore the vehicle's original lights according to regulations.
