Car rearview mirrors are an indispensable part that helps drivers observe the area around the vehicle, ensuring safety when participating in traffic.
Failed vehicle inspection due to damaged rearview mirror
The Giao thong Newspaper hotline received a question from a reader about a car that has reached the inspection deadline but the car's rearview mirror cannot be adjusted up and down. Will the car pass the inspection?
Damaged and unadjustable rearview mirrors will cause the car to fail inspection (illustrative photo).
Regarding this issue, a representative of a vehicle inspection facility in Hanoi said that the car's rearview mirror is an important part, considered the "eyes" of the driver to observe the space on both sides behind the car, places considered blind spots for the human eye.
Regardless of whether you want to change lanes, turn, stop or accelerate, the driver must observe the area around the vehicle through the rearview mirrors (outside and inside the vehicle).
Normally, car rearview mirrors are usually as durable as the car, however, during use, problems will arise that cause the mirror to crack, break, or become damaged beyond adjustment.
These damages can affect the driver's vision and observation when participating in traffic, thus posing many potential safety risks.
According to QCVN 122:2024 on inspection of motor vehicles in circulation, a cracked or broken rearview mirror that cannot be adjusted is classified as a major defect (MaD).
This means that the car fails the inspection and the owner must fix it to re-inspecte the car.
The mirror cannot be adjusted because the drive motor is damaged, the control switch is malfunctioning... (illustrative photo).
Why can't the mirror be adjusted?
An auto repair garage technician said that the driver's inability to adjust the mirror angle could be due to the following reasons: the gear or motor in the mirror is damaged; the electrical circuit of the rearview mirror control system is loose; or the mirror control switch is broken.
Normally, the car mirror circuit system is very good, ensuring long-term use, however, external factors can cause problems that affect the mirror system.
For example, when colliding with the mirror of another car moving on the road or colliding with the wall, it leads to problems with the components in the circuit system; broken wires; the circuit is exposed to water for a long time due to rain, causing acidic compounds in the water.
For the mirror control switch, there are mostly two types: the mirror adjustment switch that opens and closes, and the mirror adjustment switch that moves the mirror left, right, up and down. The adjustment switch failure is usually due to poor contact points of the switch in the electrical circuit, broken wires, loose or damaged switch connectors. The car owner needs to replace the control switch.
In case the mirror motor is faulty and cannot rotate left, right, up and down, the car owner needs to replace the motor.
To avoid damage to the mirror, car owners should pay attention to cleaning the rearview mirror regularly to ensure durability and visibility. When parking, choose a space with plenty of space, avoid collision of the rearview mirror with other obstacles.
