On the afternoon of January 4, Military Hospital 175 (Ministry of National Defense) said that EC225 aircraft with registration number VN-8620 of Army Corps 18 and the hospital's Air Rescue Team safely transported a critically ill patient from An Bang Island to the mainland.
It is known that Mr. D.MV (28 years old, from Quang Nam) is a repairman on the island.
Military Hospital 175 has asked permission from the Military Medical Department, Ministry of National Defense to allow emergency air transport to bring critically ill patients safely to the mainland.
On January 1, Mr. V showed signs of fatigue, vomiting, and loss of appetite. The next day, the patient had a high fever and chills of 39.5 degrees Celsius and was transferred to An Bang Island Infirmary.
After consulting with Military Hospital 175, doctors diagnosed the patient with meningitis differentiated from subarachnoid hemorrhage, treated with sedatives, antibiotics, fluid replacement, electrolytes... After a day, the condition did not improve, the prognosis was difficult.
At 5:00 a.m. on January 3, EC225 helicopter with registration number VN-8620 of the 18th Army Corps, captained by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Tien (Deputy Director of the 18th Army Corps Training Center), along with the Air Rescue Team (Military Hospital 175) departed from Tan Son Nhat airport.
At 7:30 p.m. the same day, the Airborne Emergency Team was able to reach the patient on An Bang Island. At that time, the patient had a disturbed consciousness, opened his eyes but was not making contact, was very agitated, had signs of infection syndrome, central nervous system infection, and stiff neck.
The patient was given emergency treatment at An Bang Island infirmary.
After the patient was stabilized on the spot, the team took the patient by plane to the mainland for emergency treatment.
The transport process encountered many difficulties because the patient was not alert and did not cooperate to stabilize the transport. Sedatives had to be used and respiratory status had to be closely monitored.
The emergency flight crew must use epidemic prevention and infection prevention measures to ensure safety because the cause of the disease has not been determined.
The flight was carried out during a long flight time, in harsh weather conditions, and had to land on Truong Sa island to refuel.
At 11:30 p.m., EC225 aircraft with registration number VN-8620 of Army Corps 18 landed safely at Military Hospital 175. The patient was quickly transferred to the Emergency Department.
The team quickly tested and consulted to diagnose and provide intensive treatment for the patient.
