JOY AND REGRETS

In 2024, Tran Quyet Chien won the World Cup twice (in Bogota - Colombia and Veghel - Netherlands), bringing the total number of world cup championships to 4. Up to now, he is still the only Vietnamese player to step onto the highest podium at the World Cup arena. In particular, Quyet Chien also created a new milestone for the history of 3-cushion carom billiards in Vietnam when he and Bao Phuong Vinh won the world team championship in Viersen (Germany). "It feels great to win 2 World Cup championships and win the world team championship in 2024. But the most special thing for me is probably the championship with Bao Phuong Vinh in Germany. After many years of competing and many times stopping in the quarter-finals of the world team championship, we finally succeeded. I am very happy about this," Quyet Chien shared.

Tran Quyet Chien aims to become world champion in 2025

Previously, the player born in 1984 also excelled in taking the No. 1 position on the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB) rankings in June 2024. Although he only held the top position for about 1 month, this is also a very proud achievement for Tran Quyet Chien himself and Vietnamese billiards fans. Despite such success, Quyet Chien did not have any regrets in 2024. In the first time UMB recognized the title of "best player of the year", Tran Quyet Chien finished second, regrettably, with the same points but losing to Dick Jaspers in terms of extra score (based on achievements in the most recent tournament). The four-time World Cup champion said: "I tried to prepare everything, but I was not at my peak form at the World Cup in Egypt at the end of 2024. I lost in the round of 16 and lost the chance to win the number 1 position of the year. But I think if I have enough skills, I can achieve this in the coming years."

ADD TO THE TITLE COLLECTION

In 2023, Tran Quyet Chien reached the finals of the 3-cushion carom world championship. The number 1 player in Vietnam lost to Bao Phuong Vinh, who was playing brilliantly. This is also the remaining noble title in the world-class playground that Quyet Chien is still missing in his collection of achievements. "In my career, the tournament that I have never won the championship until now is the World Championship. This tournament will be held in October 2025 in Belgium. This year I will try to conquer this goal," the 41-year-old player emphasized.

The first UMB tournament that Tran Quyet Chien will compete in in 2025 is the Bogota - Colombia World Cup (late February). After that (mid-March), he will continue to compete in the World Team Championship. Vietnam's No. 1 player said: "My first goal in 2025 is to defend the World Team Championship with Bao Phuong Vinh".

Tran Quyet Chien also affirmed: "No achievement comes by itself, but all from self-discipline and hard training. There were times when I was quite tired and did not compete well, but in my mind I never thought of giving up. I always tried, determined to overcome difficulties and challenges. With failures, I saw that it was because I was not meticulous enough, my skills were not good enough to win. I will try to practice more to improve every day".

Tran Quyet Chien will not attend SEA Games 33

According to the announcement from the host country Thailand, the 33rd SEA Games (taking place in December 2025) will have billiards and snooker. However, the 3-cushion carom billiards event will not appear. This is quite a pity for the Vietnamese sports delegation, because in the 3-cushion carom billiards event, Tran Quyet Chien and the Vietnamese male players are of a level superior to the regional average. If they are allowed to compete, the gold medal in this event will be difficult to escape the hands of Vietnamese athletes.
