Looking at the signboard for entering information to receive unemployment benefits at the Unemployment Insurance (UI) branch in District 12, Mr. Nguyen Van Th. (30 years old, District 12) said that this was the first time he submitted an application for unemployment benefits.
Mr. Th. shared that he used to work for a wood company in District 12, but since the beginning of the year, the company has continuously had no orders, so it has been cutting workers one after another. Recently, because it was no longer able to operate, the company temporarily closed and laid off workers, leaving Mr. Th. unemployed.
People do procedures to receive TCTN.
Over the past few months, Mr. Th. has also asked friends to look for and introduce jobs, but near the end of the year, there are no new jobs available. To have money to cover expenses while waiting to find a new job, Mr. Th. has applied for unemployment benefits.
Similar to Mr. Th., at the District 12 Social Insurance branch, there are also dozens of people waiting in line to complete procedures to receive unemployment benefits.
Speaking to reporters, a representative of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City said that in the first 10 months of 2023, units received more than 128,400 applications for unemployment benefits (up 9.3%), issued decisions on unemployment benefits for more than 125,700 workers (up 11.8%), 873 decisions to support vocational training for unemployed workers (up 40%), and received more than 491,000 workers coming to report on job search.
The number of people applying for unemployment benefits is increasing.
According to a representative of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, the number of people quitting their jobs to receive unemployment benefits has increased for many reasons, including the world and domestic economy facing many difficulties, affecting the production and business situation of enterprises, leading to employers not continuing to sign labor contracts after the contract expires, or agreeing to terminate the contract before the deadline.
To support unemployed workers, in the last months of the year, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs will strengthen job connections through the organization of 10 job exchanges, including an online exchange connecting with 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta taking place on November 24.
The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City regularly organizes job fairs to connect labor supply and demand.
In addition, closely coordinate with relevant agencies and organizations to monitor and grasp the situation of labor, employment, and labor relations in enterprises to promptly resolve arising incidents and take appropriate measures to prevent and minimize labor disputes, and not let strikes last long.
