That is one of the important teaching contents for the primary education sector of Ho Chi Minh City in the 2024-2025 school year that Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training Nguyen Bao Quoc emphasized at the Conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year for primary education, on August 14.

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City encourages primary schools to teach some subjects in foreign languages, teach foreign languages ​​through Math and Science topics, and increase socialization in foreign language teaching on a voluntary basis.

According to Mr. Quoc, currently, 100% of students in Ho Chi Minh City learn English from grades 3 and 4 according to the requirements of the 2018 program. In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to organize the teaching of foreign language 1 subjects in English and other foreign languages ​​(French, Chinese).

The encouragement of primary schools to teach some subjects in foreign languages ​​is implemented by Ho Chi Minh City according to Decision No. 72/2014/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister and Official Dispatch No. 3239/GDĐT-VP of the Department of Education and Training on international standards for assessing English proficiency of high school students in Ho Chi Minh City.

For English , for grades 1 and 2, the teaching duration will be from 2 to 8 periods/week. In which, it is possible to organize elective English teaching with 2 periods/week in the form of non-compulsory socialization after 2 elective periods of the 2018 General Education program.

For grades 3 and 4: Duration from 4 to 8 periods/week. Of which English is compulsory: 4 periods/week according to the program content and textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and Training.

In addition, grades 3 and 4 can also take additional English lessons after 4 periods of the 2018 General Education program in the form of non-compulsory socialization.

For grade 5, continue to implement the English programs implemented in previous years.

Primary schools in Ho Chi Minh City are teaching and learning Math and Science in English according to Decision 5695 (Integrated English) and continue to implement the program.

Regarding Chinese , primary schools in Ho Chi Minh City teach Chinese as a first foreign language for grades 3 and 4 and as an optional foreign language for grades 1, 2 and 5 at Huynh Kien Hoa, Nguyen Viet Xuan, Nguyen Duc Canh, Hung Vuong Primary Schools, District 5; Kim Dong, Vinh Xuyen, District 6; Ly Thai To, District 8; Au Co, Thai Phien, Pham Van Hai, District 11.

Primary schools in Ho Chi Minh City are also teaching Chinese according to the program of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Conduct enrollment for French language classes according to regulations

For French , primary schools in Ho Chi Minh City conduct French class enrollment according to the enrollment guidelines for first grade in accordance with regulations.

Primary schools also teach the French program according to textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and Training for grade 3 and bilingual French for other grades in accordance with the directive document.
