(NLDO) - According to the draft proposal of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the city will support tuition fees for preschool children, public and non-public high schools, and continuing education from the 2025-2026 school year.
Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said this is one of the contents aimed at towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day - a particularly important event of the City.
According to the draft proposal, Ho Chi Minh City will support tuition fees for preschool children, public and non-public high schools, and high school continuing education students in Ho Chi Minh City from the 2025-2026 school year.
Proposal to exempt all tuition fees for preschool students is a meaningful gift from Ho Chi Minh City
The support level is the tuition fee applicable to preschool children and high school students studying at public general education institutions that have not yet covered their regular expenses from the 2024-2025 school year and subsequent school years in Ho Chi Minh City. Specifically:
Tuition support for preschool children under 5 years old and high school students from the 2025-2026 school year with the goal that all preschool children and high school students at all levels in the city have the opportunity to participate in learning and do not have to pay tuition.
Applicable subjects include: Preschool children under 5 years old, high school students, high school continuing education students studying at public and non-public educational institutions in the city. Not including students studying at educational institutions with foreign investment.
The support level is the tuition fee applicable to preschool children and public high school students who have not yet covered their regular expenses according to Resolution No. 12/2024 of the City People's Council on tuition fees for preschool education and public general education from the 2024-2025 school year and subsequent school years in Ho Chi Minh City. Specifically, the table is as follows:
The proposed tuition support level is equivalent to the current tuition fees that students pay.
In which, group 1: Students studying at schools in Thu Duc City and districts: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan.
Group 2: Students studying at schools in the districts: Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Nha Be and Can Gio.
Applicable time: From school year 2025 - 2026.
According to the draft submission: The estimated budget for implementing the policy for the 2025-2026 school year is 338 billion VND (public: 277 billion VND, non-public: 61 billion VND).
Last week, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council approved a plan to exempt tuition fees for secondary schools, with a total cost of about VND237 billion. Preschool children aged 5 and primary school students are exempted from tuition fees according to the Education Law. Currently, preschool children under 5 and high school students have to pay tuition fees.
Meaningful fruit of Ho Chi Minh City
According to the assessment of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the proposal to issue the above policy is truly a very meaningful and practical gift for all students of the city, creating a mark to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), creating high consensus among the people of the city for the city's social security policies.
The policy is also consistent with the socio-economic situation of the city in the new period; thereby clearly demonstrating the city's investment interest in education, taking the lead in tuition exemption and support policies, ensuring education quality and learning opportunities for people; performing well the tasks after joining the UNESCO global learning city network, effectively implementing the Ho Chi Minh City Education Development Strategy from now until 2030, with a vision to 2045 according to Decision No. 192/2024 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
