Concretizing provincial planning, Quang Nam promotes the establishment of urban areas

Remove the “blanks”

Currently, Quang Nam has 2 districts without towns, Nam Tra My and Tay Giang. Resolution No. 67, dated December 6, 2024 of the Provincial People's Council, has determined the establishment of towns for these 2 districts on the basis of Tak Po urban area (Nam Tra My) and A Tieng (Tay Giang). The progress of urban recognition is being urgently completed by the competent authorities in 2025.

According to the Department of Construction, it is expected that in April 2025, the general planning of Tak Po urban area will be completed, then the Urban Development Program will be completed and the Project for recognizing this urban area as a Type V urban area will be reviewed in June 2025. As for A Tieng, by September 2025, the general planning as well as the Urban Development Program will be completed and reviewed to classify it as a Type V urban area.

The establishment of Tak Po town (on the basis of the original status of Tra Mai commune) will contribute to promoting the potential and position of the locality. At the same time, it will create a legal basis for the transformation of the management model from rural local government to urban government.

Tak Po new urban area will contribute to promoting the urbanization process of the district, creating an attractive environment to attract investment in socio-economic development while promoting inter-regional connectivity of Quang Nam - Quang Ngai - Kon Tum and branch roads connecting the district with neighboring provinces.

Meanwhile, after more than 20 years of planning, the technical and social infrastructure systems, architectural appearance and urban landscape of A Tieng have made great strides.

The establishment of A Tieng town will be a driving force to promote the socio-economic development of Tay Giang district. At the same time, it is a premise for A Tieng to break through, develop sustainably, become the administrative, socio-economic center of the district as well as contribute to the socio-economic development of the border area with Laos.

Establishing new cities

Quang Nam province's planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, has determined that by 2025, the province's urbanization rate must reach more than 37%.

To contribute to achieving this goal, it is necessary to upgrade the two urban areas of Nam Phuoc and Ha Lam to type IV urban areas as well as form four new urban areas: Duy Hai - Duy Nghia (Duy Xuyen), Binh Minh (Thang Binh), Dai Hiep (Dai Loc), Tam Dan (Phu Ninh).

The four new urban areas have all been planned for a long time, with many investment resources focused on being recognized as urban areas on time; however, all four urban areas have encountered different difficulties.

For example, Dai Hiep new urban area still has 13/63 criteria that have not met the assessment score of the Department of Construction. Meanwhile, after many difficulties, a new urban area that has been highly anticipated for many years, Duy Hai - Duy Nghia, is about to "reach the finish line".

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Nam Hung said that the Duy Hai - Duy Nghia Urban Master Plan has basically met the requirements for approval. During the process of completing the dossier, additional marina points will be studied to ensure that they are consistent with the local tourism development orientation as well as the reality of calling for investment.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, although the progress of implementing the general planning and urban development programs is different, all four urban areas of Duy Hai - Duy Nghia, Binh Minh, Tam Dan and Dai Hiep must submit for recognition as Type V urban areas by November 2025.

Thus, once the new urban areas are officially established, a large urban area will be formed in the north and east of the province, creating a seamless strip connecting with Da Nang City from Dai Hiep - Ai Nghia down to Dien Ban - Nam Phuoc town (Duy Xuyen) and stretching from Hoi An City along Duy Hai - Duy Nghia, Binh Minh.

According to the urban system development plan of Quang Nam province in the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 according to the provincial planning, by 2025 Quang Nam is expected to have 23 urban areas. Of which, there is 1 type II urban area, Tam Ky city; 1 type III urban area, Hoi An city; 2 type IV urban areas, Dien Ban, Nui Thanh and 19 type V urban areas.
