Indonesian President sees off General Secretary To Lam at the airport

(NLDO)- At noon on March 11, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, left Jakarta, Indonesia for an official visit to Singapore.


According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, after successfully concluding the activities within the framework of the State visit to Indonesia, the official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat from March 9 to 11, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Prabowo Subianto and ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn, at noon on March 11, General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation boarded a special plane leaving Halim Perdanakusuma Military Airport, Jakarta, for an official visit to Singapore at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, Secretary General of the Singapore People's Action Party (PAP) Lawrence Wong.

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) party Prabowo Subianto went to the airport to see off General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation.

Seeing off the delegation at the airport, on the Indonesian side were Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Vietnam Denny Abdi and many Indonesian officials. On the Vietnamese side, there were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Indonesia Ta Van Thong and his wife; Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, and many officials of the Embassy and the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN.

During the visit, General Secretary To Lam held talks with the President of Indonesia; met with the Chairman of the Indonesian People's Representative Council, Chairman of the Indonesian Local Representative Council, Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Council; received Indonesian corporations and businesses; met with officials and staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese Delegation in Indonesia; attended the Vietnam-Indonesia Business Dialogue; attended the ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Vietnam joining ASEAN and delivered a policy speech...

During the meetings, the two sides held discussions in a warm and friendly atmosphere; reaffirmed their commitment to the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia.

The two sides agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia, pledging to enhance political trust, cooperation and coordination in addressing global challenges on the basis of respect for international law, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.

In the spirit of bringing bilateral relations to a new chapter, the two sides emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people exchanges and conducting regular reviews of the relationship through existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

The two sides agreed to deepen economic cooperation to contribute to the joint efforts of Vietnam and Indonesia to become high-income countries by the 100th anniversary of their national day in 2045.

To achieve this goal, the two countries have set a bilateral trade target of 18 billion USD by 2028 and will continue to strengthen inter-sectoral economic cooperation.

The two sides agreed to expand cooperation to new areas for a sustainable future such as green economy, food and energy security, Halal industry, fisheries, agriculture, maritime cooperation, science and technology, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and finance and banking.

Emphasizing the importance of mutual support and close coordination at multilateral forums, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination at ASEAN, the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum and inter-parliamentary forums; reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the process of building the ASEAN Community...

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, security, stability and freedom of navigation and aviation in accordance with ASEAN's consistent stance; stressed the importance of peacefully resolving disputes through legal and diplomatic measures, in full compliance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam attended the ceremony to announce the direct flight route from Ho Chi Minh City to Denpasar, the capital of Bali, Indonesia from June 2025, organized by Vietnam Airlines; and witnessed the handover of cooperation documents in many fields.

General Secretary To Lam's visit to the ASEAN Secretariat strongly demonstrates Vietnam's strategic commitment to ASEAN, affirming that ASEAN continues to be a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy in the new era.
