General Secretary and President To Lam begins State visit to Ireland

VOV.VN - After successfully concluding the State visit to Mongolia, on the morning of October 2 (Vietnam time), the special plane carrying General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived at Dublin Airport, the capital of Dublin, for a State visit to Ireland. The visit was at the invitation of President Michael D. Higgins.
The official delegation accompanying the General Secretary and President included Politburo member Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee; Party Central Committee Secretaries: Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office; Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission. Also accompanying the official delegation were Party Central Committee members: Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mai Van Chinh, Head of the Party Central Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission; Le Khanh Hai, Head of the President's Office; Nguyen Thuy Anh, Head of the National Assembly's Social Affairs Committee; Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Minister of Home Affairs; Le Minh Hoan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Nguyen Van Hung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Transport; Dao Hong Lan, Minister of Health; Nguyen Hai Ninh, Minister of Justice; Pham Hoai Nam, Deputy Minister of National Defense.

The official delegation also included comrades: To An Xo, Assistant to the General Secretary, Head of the General Secretary's Office; Do Minh Hung, Vietnamese Ambassador to Ireland.

Present at Dublin Airport to welcome the General Secretary, President and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on the Irish side were Minister of Agriculture, Food and Marine Pippa Hackett; Director of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eamonn McKee; Mayor of Fingal, Dublin Brian McDonagh; Ambassador of Ireland to Vietnam Deirde Ni Fhalluin. On the Vietnamese side, there were Ambassador of Vietnam to Ireland Do Minh Hung and his wife, along with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Ireland. During his state visit to Ireland, General Secretary and President To Lam is expected to attend a state-level welcome ceremony and hold talks with President Michael D. Higgins; lay flowers at the National Monument; meet with Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris; meet with President of the Senate Jerry Buttimer; witness the handover of cooperation documents; attend and speak at the Vietnam-Ireland Business Forum; visit the National Institute of Biological Research and Training; meet with officials and staff of the Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Ireland and a number of other activities. This is the first state visit to Ireland by the General Secretary and President since the two sides established diplomatic relations. The visit contributes to enhancing political trust and consolidating friendly relations; promoting cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, education, training, and agriculture. The visit by General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation will contribute to firmly consolidating the foundations and bases in Vietnam's relations with Ireland, while exploring new areas and potentials in cooperation with each country, contributing to bringing relations with other countries into depth, substance, effectiveness, and suitability to the new situation.
