Just a few days after returning from a trip to New York to attend activities at the United Nations, work in the US and pay a state visit to Cuba, General Secretary and President To Lam continued to visit Mongolia, Ireland, attend the Francophone Summit and pay an official visit to France.
Bringing Vietnam's cooperation with Mongolia, Ireland and France to new heights
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that this is the first State visit of our leaders to Mongolia after 16 years; to Ireland after nearly 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations; to France after 22 years and also the first time General Secretary and President To Lam attends the Francophone Summit.
According to Mr. Son, more importantly, the Joint Statement on the establishment of the Vietnam-Mongolia Comprehensive Partnership; the establishment of the Vietnam-Ireland Strategic Partnership in the field of higher education and the upgrading of the Vietnam-France relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
“The visit has brought Vietnam's cooperative relations with Mongolia, Ireland and France to a new height,” Mr. Son affirmed.
In line with the upgraded cooperative relationship, Mr. Son said that during the trip, nearly 20 specific cooperation documents were signed, opening up new and more practical cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and all three countries in many different fields.

In particular, according to Mr. Son, the General Secretary and President's announcement that Vietnam has decided to open its embassy in Ireland after 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations will open a new stage of development in the Vietnam-Ireland bilateral cooperation relationship and meet the expectations of the Vietnamese community in Ireland.
Mr. Son affirmed that the General Secretary and President's visit to Mongolia, Ireland, France and attendance at the Francophone Summit, countries and international organizations with good cooperative relations and special friends of Vietnam, demonstrates the special interest in further promoting Vietnam's cooperative relations with these countries and international organizations.
“The agreement between Vietnam and France to upgrade their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership affirms a breakthrough after more than 10 years of establishing and implementing the Strategic Partnership framework.
This will be the solid foundation and basis to strengthen political trust between the two countries, bringing the Vietnam-France relationship deeper and deeper, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace and stability in the region and the world," Mr. Son emphasized.
Mr. Son said that France has become the first country in the European Union (EU) to have a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, equal to the level of cooperation between Vietnam and China, Russia, Japan, the US, etc.
“The Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam-France relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership commits to deepening political cooperation in the face of international challenges; enhancing defense and security cooperation as well as economic partnership, cooperation for sustainable development and self-reliance; and promoting people-to-people exchange,” Mr. Son commented.
Expressing Vietnam's new vision in the new era
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that, like the trip to the United Nations General Assembly, working in the US and visiting Cuba at the state level, the trip to Mongolia, Ireland, France and attending the 19th Francophone Summit is a step to continue to strongly implement the foreign policy of the 12th National Party Congress, especially when our country is facing a new era, the era of the Vietnamese people's rise as General Secretary and President To Lam mentioned many times.
According to Mr. Son, on the occasion of attending the United Nations Forum in New York and the 19th Francophone Summit, General Secretary and President To Lam spoke at joint sessions or through bilateral meetings, presenting the vision of the Vietnamese leader about today's world and the path that Vietnam will take in the future. At the same time, the General Secretary and President also emphasized Vietnam's determination to strengthen multilateralism and cooperation.
Mr. Son said that the sharing of General Secretary and President To Lam, especially the presentations on Vietnam's policies and Vietnam's vision for the world met common expectations, thereby contributing to spreading more strongly the message of a proactive, positive, and responsible Vietnam. Vietnam is always ready to join hands with the international community to respond to challenges, contributing to a future of "peace, friendship, solidarity and sustainable development".
Particularly in relations with France, Mr. Son emphasized the General Secretary and President's statement that "Vietnam is ready to closely coordinate with France to build a new era for bilateral relations", contributing to strengthening solidarity and mutual understanding between the people of the two countries... This is something the French side really wants to hear and welcomes.
Deeply concerned about the Vietnamese community abroad
According to Mr. Son, during the talks and meetings with the host countries, General Secretary and President To Lam always mentioned the Vietnamese community in the host country with the request to continue creating conditions for them to live, work, integrate and develop in the host country; to make worthy contributions to the host country as well as to the development of bilateral cooperation.
In particular, Mr. Son said that despite the busy official schedule, the leaders of our Party and State always take time to meet and encourage the Vietnamese community abroad.
In Paris, the General Secretary and President met with over 100 representatives of overseas Vietnamese living, working and studying in France as well as representatives of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe. The General Secretary and President emphasized that the Party and State always acknowledge and highly appreciate the contributions of generations of overseas Vietnamese in France and the Association of Vietnamese in France to the country in the struggle for national independence and in the cause of national development and defense.
Mr. Son said that in meetings with Vietnamese representative agencies in the countries he visited, the General Secretary and President always requested attention to creating conditions for people to stay close and contribute more to the homeland, while reminding all staff of representative agencies to perform well the function of protecting citizens.
