On the afternoon of June 28, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter , Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, said that on the same afternoon, he went to the scene where the provincial authorities were conducting a forest fire drill to inspect the situation after the press reported that the drill caused a fire to spread to some forest trees.
According to Mr. Buu, through actual inspection, the rehearsal area was zoned off by the provincial authorities with an area of about 400 square meters.
Some of the forest trees were burnt black after the rehearsal.
Actual records show that after the drill, a few Acacia trees caught fire. The Provincial People's Committee has directed to learn from this incident. Any forest trees that caught fire due to the fire drill on June 26 are required to regenerate.
"This is also a great lesson in forest fire prevention. However, forest fire drills must be conducted in the forest to be closer to reality. How can we conduct a drill in an empty field? Through this incident, the province will request the planning of a separate area for the drill," said Mr. Buu.
According to Mr. Buu, the whole Quang Nam province has nearly 7,000 hectares of forest, so protecting these forests is extremely important. Therefore, forest fire prevention drills are an effective measure for the whole population to actively participate in fire prevention to prevent and limit damage caused by forest fires. In addition, propaganda helps people understand forest fire prevention positively.
Regarding this issue, the Quang Nam Provincial Forest Protection Department has reported to the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee. In the report, the Provincial Forest Protection Department admitted that the forest fire drill affected a few surrounding Acacia auriculiformis trees, which is also an experience to overcome for future forest fire drills.
Previously, on the morning of June 26, Quang Nam Forestry Department coordinated with the People's Committee of Thang Binh District (Quang Nam) to organize a ceremony to mobilize the entire population to participate in forest fire prevention and fighting and forest fire fighting drills in 2023.
It is worth mentioning that immediately after that, public opinion in Quang Nam was abuzz with information that in order to practice forest fire fighting, the authorities had cordoned off a forest area in the PACSA project's protective forest area and then burned it.
Mr. Ha Phuoc Phu, Deputy Head of the Quang Nam Provincial Forest Protection Department, said that the area chosen for the exercise was very sparse and had few trees after a survey. Before the exercise, the area was zoned and the team gathered trees, branches, and twigs that had fallen due to storms in previous years from other areas and piled them up to burn to create fuel for the exercise. The trees that were cut were all dead and dry.
