Walking among the vast green of production forests in the districts of Như Thanh, Như Xuân, Thường Xuân, Lang Chánh, Thạch Thành, Ngọc Lặc... we heard more stories of the desire to get rich from the forest. Notably, localities, units and people have proactively implemented many solutions to socialize forest protection (BVR) at the root and plant forests with high-quality forestry trees (tissue cultured trees) to increase income value for forest owners, contributing to effective and sustainable forest development...

Improve the economic efficiency of forest plantations Cao Thinh people (Ngoc Lac) grow tissue culture hybrid acacia trees.

Following the tree-lined roads, we visited the forest farm of Mr. Le Duy Hai's family in Khe Cat village, Thanh Tan commune (Nhu Thanh) - an effective and creative model of developing large-scale timber plantations, demonstrating the efforts and dedication of the workers.

Mr. Hai shared: "The family has been contracted for forestry land with an area of 12.6 hectares since 2018. Up to now, the family has planted and cared for 12.6 hectares of large timber forest, including 2.6 hectares of hybrid acacia using the family's own investment capital"...

Deputy Head of the Technical - Planning Department of BVR (Nhu Thanh Protection Forest Management Board) Le Van Dung and many officers and workers here shared: The Nhu Thanh Protection Forest Management Board has been proactively implementing solutions to form concentrated, specialized and intensive production forest planting areas, large-scale commercial forest products, linking forest planting with processing and forest product consumption markets, improving production efficiency, forest use, attracting and creating more jobs, increasing income for forest workers, protecting the ecological environment. The focus is on planting forests with high-quality forestry trees, tissue-cultured trees, increasing income value for forest owners.

To improve the effectiveness of new forest planting, management stations and BVRs in communes regularly visit the area to provide technical guidance and organize households to plant new production forests in the direction of intensive farming such as tissue-cultured acacia... Focus on propaganda so that people in the area understand the outstanding advantages of tissue-cultured trees such as fast and even growth, higher wood biomass, low pest and disease infection rate; mobilize forest owners to overcome difficulties and invest in expanding the area of new forest planting and replanting after exploitation with tissue-cultured trees; thereby improving the productivity and quality of planted forests. As a result, from 2021 to February 2025, the Nhu Thanh Protective Forest Management Board provided technical guidance; provided seedlings; organized households to contract forestry production land to plant new and replant exploited forests according to regulations on more than 1,477.4 hectares of forest, including 220.8 hectares of hybrid tissue-cultured acacia. In general, the entire planted forest area has been cared for, protected, and prevented from pests and diseases, and is growing well. In 2024, the Nhu Thanh Protective Forest Management Board was granted FSC sustainable forest management certification for 3,584.34 hectares in 8 communes and towns of Nhu Thanh district and Thuong Ninh commune of Nhu Xuan district, so the value of wood has been increased, meeting the conditions for export to international markets.

Currently, Lang Chanh Protective Forest Management Board has been implementing safety protection solutions for 10,292.14 hectares of forest assigned for management. Effective forest development here has increased income for forest owners, contributing to sustainable forest protection and development.

Join us to visit the large timber forest planting model in the communes of Tri Nang, Giao Thien, Tan Phuc and Lang Chanh town... Director of Lang Chanh Protective Forest Management Board Le Xuan Diep said: The Board has proactively planted production forests in the direction of intensive large timber forest cultivation, using basal fertilizers and top dressing for plants during the care period. As a result, more than 1,800 hectares of newly planted forests from previous years with main crops of acacia, bamboo, and fat... have grown and developed well and have been exploited. In the period from 2017 to 2022, the Board has newly planted 824 hectares of large timber forests in the communes of Tri Nang, Giao Thien, Tan Phuc and Lang Chanh town. In 2023, 171.6 hectares of large timber forests were planted with hybrid acacia and Australian acacia on the production forest area that has just been exploited according to regulations (exceeding 71.6 hectares compared to the plan for new forest planting in 2023). In 2024, 130 hectares of large timber forest will be newly planted (30 hectares more than the assigned plan). Since the beginning of 2025, nearly 40 hectares of forest have been planted with hybrid acacia and Australian acacia. According to the plan, 100 hectares of forest will be newly planted and replanted after exploitation in 2025.

Proactively improving the productivity and quality of planted forests, in recent years, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has focused on directing localities and forest owners to strengthen management and use of high-quality seeds in afforestation. Creating favorable conditions for organizations and individuals in the area to have facilities for tissue culture to produce forestry seedlings. Forestry seed production facilities in the province have proactively produced tissue culture plants to ensure the source of tissue culture plants to serve the plan of new forest planting. Overcoming the situation of poor quality forestry seedlings, affecting the efficiency of planted forests. Along with directing and urging the production and care of seedlings, functional sectors have increased inspection of seed materials used for propagation, thereby improving the quality of seeds used for afforestation.

In order to support organizations and individuals planting production forests using tissue cultured seedlings, on December 10, 2021, the Provincial People's Council issued Resolution No. 185/2021/NQ-HDND on promulgating policies for agricultural, rural and farmer development in Thanh Hoa province for the period 2022-2025. Accordingly, the support level is 1,300 VND/seedling, not exceeding 2 million VND/ha. The support condition is that organizations, families and individuals are allocated land by the State, leased land or contracted production forest land to plant production forests. The area of production forests planted using tissue cultured seedlings must be from 1ha or more for households and individuals and from 20ha or more for organizations.

Talking to us, Mr. Thieu Van Luc, Deputy Head of Thanh Hoa Forest Protection Department, said: Implementing policies to support concentrated forest planting using tissue-cultured trees, from 2021-2024, the whole province has planted more than 6,500 hectares of concentrated forest using tissue-cultured trees. The entire forest area planted using tissue-cultured trees is being cared for, protected, growing and developing well. The Forest Protection Department has directed units that are State forest owners and forest rangers to proactively plan seed sources and forestry seedling nursery systems to ensure quality for forest planting; provide technical guidance on new forest planting. Propaganda and mobilization of people and forest owners to implement sustainable forest business models that mix large timber trees with short-cycle tree species to ensure immediate income for forest owners when large timber forests are not yet ready for exploitation.

Focus on directing localities and forest owners to strengthen management and use of high-quality forestry varieties in large-scale timber plantations (tissue-cultured trees) and apply intensive forestation measures to improve productivity and quality of planted forests. Direct the successful completion of technical design of silvicultural works; prepare the site for planting 10,000 hectares of concentrated forests in 2025, of which more than 1,000 hectares will be planted with tissue-cultured trees.

Continue to advise the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to urge the People's Committees of districts to effectively implement policies to support the planting of production forests using tissue cultured trees. Attract businesses to invest in forest planting projects along the chain from production to processing, and build raw material areas through supporting forest growers to purchase products.

With the determination of the Provincial People's Committee and the participation of sectors and localities, along with the desire to get rich of the people in the beloved green forest, the economic efficiency of planted forests has been improving, creating a breakthrough in the development of the forestry economy.
