The Economic - Social Subcommittee works with localities in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.

The conference was chaired by comrade Tran Luu Quang, member of the Central Party Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Standing member of the Economic - Social Subcommittee of the 14th National Congress of the Party and comrade Nguyen Chi Dung, member of the Central Party Committee, Minister of Planning and Investment. Attending the conference, delegates from Tuyen Quang province included comrades: Nguyen Manh Tuan, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Van Dinh Thao, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment.

The Economic - Social Subcommittee of the 14th National Party Congress worked with localities in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.

At the meeting, leaders of localities in the region reported on the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congresses; shared experiences, good lessons as well as difficulties and obstacles in the development process and made proposals and recommendations to the Central Committee.

Speaking at the conference, Comrade Nguyen Manh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, presented a number of important results of Tuyen Quang province in implementing Resolution No. 11-NQ/TW dated February 10, 2022 of the Politburo on socio-economic development orientations, ensuring national defense and security in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The Provincial Party Committee, People's Council and People's Committee have focused on leading and directing the development and issuance of resolutions, directives, projects and plans to concretize and implement the Resolution. These include important resolutions such as: on developing transport infrastructure, dynamic urban areas and information technology infrastructure; on developing tourism to become an important economic sector of the province; on industrial development; on digital transformation...

The province's economy continues to grow quite well and relatively comprehensively, in harmony with socio-cultural development. The average gross domestic product in the area for the 5 years 2021 - 2025 is estimated to reach over 8%; the first 6 months of 2024 increased by 8.84% over the same period in 2023, ranking 9th out of 63 provinces and cities, and 2nd out of 14 provinces in the Northern midlands and mountainous region.

To help Tuyen Quang and the Northern Midlands and Mountainous provinces exploit all potentials and promote advantages to create regional linkages, he proposed that the Government soon issue specific mechanisms and policies for the region to narrow the gap between regions in the country; build Tuyen Quang into a high-tech forestry zone and a wood processing production center; build the Tan Trao National Special Relic Site into a center for revolutionary history education associated with tourism development nationwide.

At the same time, My Lam Mineral Spring Resort will be developed into a high-class eco-resort; Thanh Tuyen Festival will be built into an international-scale and branded festival. He also requested the Government to increase the number of people working in the education sector and not to reduce the number of teachers in mountainous provinces with difficult socio-economic conditions such as Tuyen Quang province.

Comrade Nguyen Manh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee spoke at the conference.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized the important role of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region, not only as a place to protect forests and water but also to care for ethnic minorities and develop foreign relations for the common development of the whole country. The general spirit is that priority mechanisms, policies and resources should be given to this region in the coming time.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to calculate and organize thematic survey teams in localities, and at the same time hoped that localities would continue to contribute opinions to the draft Resolution of the 14th Congress. He noted that localities should make more efforts and pay more attention to the work of ethnic minority cadres and cadres working on ethnic affairs; focus on improving the capacity of grassroots cadres in the context that the Central Government is promoting decentralization but many localities have not been able to implement it; traffic connectivity must come first to exploit potential and advantages...
