Vietnam-Singapore Prime Ministers hold dialogue with young leaders of the two countries

The Vietnam-Singapore Young Leaders Dialogue Program is jointly organized by the Vietnam National Youth Committee and the Singapore National Youth Council in both Singapore and Vietnam, with the aim of promoting solidarity and cultural exchange between young leaders of the two countries; enhancing understanding, roles, and sharing experiences of young leaders in digital transformation.

At the meeting, youth representatives from the two countries spoke and reported to the two Prime Ministers the results and recommendations that the delegations of the two countries had discussed and developed together after going through learning journeys on digital transformation in both Vietnam and Singapore; as well as expressing the role of youth in promoting the strategic partnership between the two countries in the coming time.

Mr. Bui Quang Huy, First Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Chairman of the National Committee on Vietnamese Youth, reported on the results of cooperation activities between the National Committee on Vietnamese Youth and the National Youth Council of Singapore in recent times; especially emphasizing the effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Vietnam-Singapore Youth Cooperation for the period 2023-2028, focusing on continuing to exchange high-level delegations and delegations of young leaders and youth in many fields and subjects such as young politicians, young entrepreneurs, young scientists, students, etc.; promoting cooperation in areas where the youth of the two countries have strengths; continuing to support each other in multilateral forums of which the two countries are members, especially ASEAN and ASEAN+.

Representing Singaporean youth, Mr. He Ruiming, co-founder of The Woke Salaryman Company, said he had memorable experiences in Vietnam through the Singapore-Vietnam youth leadership exchange program.

He Ruiming shared that they learned about each other's diverse cultures and histories, and built friendships and bonds. "Those were truly memorable days when we enjoyed food and coffee while learning 'good words and beautiful ideas'," said the Singaporean youth representative.

He also said he met many Vietnamese friends and shared their dreams and worries in the digital age and unpredictable changes in the world.

According to Mr. He Ruiming, both countries have the desire for independence and their own identities, but they are still connected in terms of culture, ideology and together respond to challenges. Nowadays, with endless information constantly changing, the representative of Singaporean youth believes that there needs to be close cooperation and connection between the youth of the two countries.

On behalf of Vietnamese youth, Ms. Dinh Thuy Tien, Lecturer of the Faculty of Finance and Banking, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Foreign Trade University, said that Singapore is a model of banking and finance that often appears in her lectures to students.

Over the past 50 years, Vietnam-Singapore relations have developed and strengthened. Last February, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Singapore with many positive results.

In particular, the signing of a commitment by the two countries' young leaders to expand the 2023-2028 period on annual young leader exchanges will create more opportunities for the youth of the two countries to exchange. Ms. Thuy Tien hopes that in the future, there will be more programs like this.

"Unity is strength and the unity of the youth of the two countries across the border can overcome difficulties and go further," Ms. Thuy Tien hopes.

Listening to the sharing of Vietnamese youth, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said he felt the enthusiasm, dynamism, and inspirational aspirations of the youth of the two countries with the desire to make the world a better place.

The Singaporean Prime Minister emphasized that youth are the most important resource of countries, the future depends on and lies in the hands of the young generation.

With the current good relationship between the two countries, the Singaporean Prime Minister assessed that the two countries are in a process of strong transformation with many opportunities for cooperation to bring a good life to the people.

“It is important for young people to understand how the situation at home and around us is changing, what happens in the region affects us, or brings us opportunities,” said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The relationship between the two countries is entering a new phase, so Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong hopes that young leaders will strengthen cooperation, exchange, build friendly relations, and cooperate to find opportunities, find partners and realize their dreams.

The dialogue took place right after the two Prime Ministers and their spouses met, interacted and had lunch with students of Hanoi National University. Therefore, in the youthful atmosphere, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that both he and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong felt “young again” when meeting and talking with students, youth and young leaders present at the program.

The Prime Minister said that after 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, Vietnam-Singapore relations are developing very well in all fields. The two countries share viewpoints and coordinate effectively in international forums.

In order to further develop the Vietnam-Singapore relationship, the Prime Minister suggested that delegates strengthen connections, exchange ideas, promote good values ​​in the relationship between the two countries, promote cooperation in new areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, knowledge economy, sharing economy, innovation, etc., strongly promote the traditions of the two countries through the process of rising up, fighting for national independence and developing the country in difficult conditions.

The Prime Minister said that although there are different views on different issues, the head of government hopes that delegates need to exchange in an open spirit, ready to share, exchange and discuss frankly on those issues.

Reiterating President Ho Chi Minh's words, "The prosperity or decline, weakness or strength of a country depends largely on the youth," the Prime Minister said that the voice and contributions of the youth are extremely important to the sustainable development of each country and region; therefore, it is important to not only connect the youth of the two countries but also connect with the youth of other countries.

According to the Prime Minister, the world today is more favorable, with new tools for easier communication and learning, but there are also difficulties and challenges. The problem is that we detect and identify problems early to adapt flexibly and effectively; the youth must be steadfast, steadfast, and dare to take on difficult and big tasks.

The head of government said that the task of the youth of the two countries in the current period is to promote their pioneering and pioneering roles, paving the way for the two countries to develop rapidly and sustainably, contributing positively to the Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership; for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister commended the important achievements and results that the youth of the two countries, represented by the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam and the National Youth Council of Singapore, have achieved in recent times; and suggested that the two agencies continue to promote further cooperation, especially in concretizing the Memorandum of Understanding on Vietnam-Singapore youth cooperation for the 2023-2028 period.

The Prime Minister emphasized that in some areas, young people need to promote their "pioneering" role, first of all, being pioneers in learning and improving the knowledge and skills needed to adapt to and master the future of the 4.0 era.

"I believe that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also shares this view because one of the greatest achievements during his tenure as Prime Minister is education." Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also repeated the saying of the late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew: "If you win the race in education, you will win in economic development."

The Prime Minister suggested that the youth of the two countries take the lead in demonstrating their responsibility to society and the community. It is necessary to build and maintain the "youth flame" and "youth spirit" of the desire to contribute, thinking, thinking, ambition, and striving not only for themselves but also to create benefits for society and the community, in the spirit of "leaving no one behind".
