On the afternoon of October 26, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Ms. Susan Pointer, Vice President of International Public Policy of Amazon Group, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.

Welcoming Ms. Susan Pointer to Vietnam after Vietnam and the United States established a comprehensive strategic partnership, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated and highly appreciated Amazon's development process and the practical and effective contributions of Amazon Group in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always considers the United States one of its leading important partners. In the joint statement upgrading Vietnam-US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and in the meeting between the Prime Minister and US President Joe Biden in September 2023, the two sides identified cooperation in science, technology, digital transformation and innovation as one of the new breakthroughs in bilateral relations. This is a foundation and great opportunity for businesses of the two countries, including Amazon, to cooperate and invest in development.

According to the Prime Minister, digital transformation is a global trend, and Vietnam is no exception. Vietnam is promoting the development of the digital economy, digital citizens, digital society, and digital government, including the development of e-commerce, with the goal of making the digital economy account for 20% of GDP by 2025 and 30% of GDP by 2030.

Given that Amazon has developed and has a global ecosystem, the Prime Minister suggested that Amazon share its experience with Vietnam in developing e-commerce, cross-border trade, and cloud computing; help Vietnam train human resources in the field of e-commerce; share business management science; develop logistics; manage and optimize system operations.

In particular, Amazon supports businesses, especially Vietnamese small and medium enterprises, in digital transformation; building brands, and bringing goods and products into the global supply chain.

Informing that Vietnam will soon inaugurate the National Innovation Center, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Amazon to advise and cooperate with Vietnam on specific projects to promote operational efficiency, as well as help Vietnam maximize its potential and strengths, overcome limitations to achieve goals in digital transformation and innovation.

With a population of 100 million people who tend to favor e-commerce, Amazon has a great opportunity to develop the market in Vietnam. Along with that, every year Amazon also brings more than 17 million Vietnamese products to the Group's e-commerce system.

The Prime Minister said that there is still a lot of room for development. He suggested that Amazon continue to expand its investment and business in Vietnam and bring more Vietnamese products and services to the world through the Group's system, based on the viewpoint of "harmonized benefits, shared risks; mutual benefit; mutual victory".

The Prime Minister also asked Amazon to speak up with the US Government to soon complete the recognition of Vietnam's market economy status, creating more favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to cooperate, invest and develop.

Sincerely thanking the Prime Minister for taking the time to receive the delegation; agreeing with the Prime Minister's opinions and vision, especially with the philosophy of "harmonized benefits, shared risks", the Vice President of International Public Policy of Amazon Group said that he will make efforts to coordinate with ministries, branches, agencies and enterprises of Vietnam to expand, deepen and make more effective the cooperation between the two sides.

Appreciating the environment, potential, and investment and business opportunities in Vietnam, Ms. Susan Pointer said that Amazon will participate more deeply in the digital transformation process in Vietnam; develop e-commerce and cloud computing; raise awareness and train skills for Vietnamese workers; cooperate with a number of enterprises in Vietnam to produce products and equipment and bring more Vietnamese products and services to the world; support Vietnamese startups to reach out to the world... as requested by the Prime Minister.
