What is the procedure for getting an evisa to enter Russia?

What is the difference between getting an evisa and a traditional visa to Russia like before, is the evisa simpler or not?

My husband and I are planning to visit the two largest cities in Russia next fall. I heard that Vietnam is on the list of visas that can be granted evisa. So what exactly are the differences between these two types of visas? Is evisa simpler? Where should I start?
