Welcoming Minister Kurenkov Aleksandr Vyacheslavovich and the delegation of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Emergency Situations to visit Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always remembers the support and assistance that the Russian people have given Vietnam in the struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as in national construction and development.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the Russian Federation; wishes to continue substantive and effective cooperation with Russia in all fields, for the common interests of the two peoples, for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
The Prime Minister said that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification, and is a responsible member of the international community. Vietnam attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the Russian Federation; considers Russia one of its top priority partners; and wishes to continue substantive and effective cooperation with Russia in all fields, for the common interests of the two peoples, for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.
In particular, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels; effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms, especially the Intergovernmental Committee mechanism, remove difficulties and obstacles in cooperation in the spirit of harmonizing interests and sharing difficulties; promote trade and investment, focusing on developing new projects. At the same time, research and develop specific plans to soon reopen direct flights between the two countries.
Before the pandemic, Russia was one of the largest tourist markets for Vietnam. However, the direct flight from Hanoi to Moscow (Russian Federation) operated by Vietnam Airlines has been suspended since March 25, 2022. For nearly 2 years, citizens between the two countries have had to travel via round-trip flights (transit in a third country) on flights operated by foreign airlines such as Emirates Airlines, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, etc. Difficulties in travel have left Vietnam behind more expensive destinations in Asia, such as Japan and South Korea, in attracting Russian tourists.
