Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet received Acting Permanent Assistant Secretary of State, US Department of State

On the afternoon of March 24, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet received Acting Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons Ann K. Ganzer on the occasion of her visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet highly appreciated the development steps of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in recent times in various fields, including science and technology cooperation.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam highly values ​​and wishes to promote cooperation with the United States in the field of nuclear energy development, within the framework of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as with countries with developed nuclear industries, including the United States.

Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet shared that Vietnam has a huge demand for energy to serve its development goals in the coming time.

Affirming that Vietnam considers nuclear energy as one of the potential solutions with the dual goal of serving development, ensuring energy security, responding to climate change, contributing to reducing emissions, and moving towards the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, the Deputy Minister suggested that the United States soon remove Vietnam from the list of high-tech export restrictions, creating favorable conditions for the two countries to promote cooperation and technology transfer.

Acting Permanent Assistant Secretary of State Ann K. Ganzer expressed her delight at the comprehensive development of the two countries, especially the important milestone of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Ms. Ganzer expressed her hope that the two countries will promote cooperation in the energy sector, an area in which the United States has strengths, including civil nuclear technology.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation programs and related professional content. The functional units of the two countries will continue to strengthen coordination and information exchange to meet common development requirements, especially in the field of nuclear power.
