Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh, Chairman of the National Press Awards Council, emphasized that over the past 99 years under the leadership of the Party, the guidance of President Ho Chi Minh, and the trust and support of the people, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has always been closely associated with and accompanied the revolutionary cause of the nation. In all historical periods of the country, the revolutionary press has always been the leading force, the sharp spiritual weapon of the Party and the State on the ideological and cultural front, the forum of the people, making great contributions to the revolutionary cause. Continuing that tradition, with a team of journalists of more than 25,000 members, of all types of press, we are proud to have a developed press, worthy of the trust of the Party and the people.
The President of the Vietnam Journalists Association emphasized that in the context of rapid technological development and changes in the way users access information, more than ever, journalists - especially the heads of press agencies and Journalists Associations at all levels - must promote the fine traditions of Vietnam's revolutionary press, strongly innovate to ensure the quality of content and form, transmission methods, innovate production and distribution programs to bring new experiences to readers through digital technology applications.
According to the President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, in the past year, in the context of common difficulties and challenges in the world, the region and the country, the press has always been a vanguard force, effectively propagating the policies and guidelines of the Party and State, always closely associated with and accompanying the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, serving the People.
The press has reflected the efforts of the Party, the State, the people and businesses to implement the socio-economic development plan; the implementation of the Resolution on Party building and rectification, resolutely fighting against corruption, negativity, fighting against wrong and hostile views, protecting the Party's ideological foundation. Discovering green economic and circular economic development models, mentioning issues and bottlenecks of the economy...
There have been many journalistic works that reflect reality, are close to reality, are highly topical, and address social hot spots. Many works are carefully invested in, with content that discovers new issues, criticizes major policies and guidelines of the Party and State; proposes many creative solutions, good practices that have the power to spread and influence society. Journalists demonstrate steadfast political will, high social responsibility, and proficient professional skills that create widespread social effects. Many of these works were honored at this award ceremony.
On behalf of the National Press Awards Council, the Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association congratulated the award-winning authors, congratulated the achievements of the team of journalists nationwide and believed that with the fine tradition of revolutionary journalism, with a strong political stance, professional ethics, and high professional qualifications, the team of Vietnamese journalists will increasingly develop and continue to reap new successes.
Building a team of journalists with an offensive spirit, fighting to eliminate mistakes
Attending and speaking at the award ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President To Lam sent to generations of journalists and the press public at home and abroad his warm feelings, kind regards, and best wishes from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.
The President commended, acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements and results of the press and journalists in the cause of national liberation, construction and development of the country over the past 99 years.
The President stated that, over the past 99 years of formation and development, the Vietnamese revolutionary press, founded by beloved President Ho Chi Minh, under the leadership of the Party, with the noble and sacred goal of serving the Fatherland and the people, has clearly demonstrated its role as a sharp weapon of the working class, the revolutionary flag; made important contributions to the cause of national liberation and reunification in the past, as well as in the cause of innovation, construction and protection of the Fatherland today...
Congratulating the authors and groups of authors who were awarded the 18th National Press Awards, President To Lam affirmed that the award-winning works reflected the vibrant labor picture of the press nationwide in the past year; at the same time, they represented the great achievements of the press team towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.
According to President To Lam, currently, the entire Party, people and army are making efforts to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, leading the country to successfully complete the goal of 100 years under the Party's leadership, 100 years of founding the country, and by the middle of the 21st century, becoming a developed country with high income, following a socialist orientation.
The year 2025, when celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press, is a pivotal year, posing great requirements and tasks, but also extremely glorious for the press and the team of journalists in propaganda, creating social consensus and combined strength to successfully implement the Party's policies and guidelines; as well as building a professional, humane and modern press and media.
To achieve these goals, the President suggested that it is necessary to focus on building a team of journalists who are truly soldiers on the cultural and ideological front, with "bright minds, pure hearts, sharp pens", "both red and professional", and must always keep Uncle Ho's teachings in mind. Along with that, it is necessary to be steadfast in the ideals and noble values of journalism; adhere to principles, maintain professional ethics, have an offensive spirit, fight to eliminate the bad and the wrong, protect the right and the good, and always devote themselves to the common cause.
In addition, it is necessary to promote the role of the press to truly be a sharp weapon, an effective tool of the Party on the ideological front, and to produce more press works with high theoretical and political value. Focus on propagating, encouraging, and rallying the masses to implement the Party's leadership; educate and guide all social classes to act according to socialist standards and ethics.
At the same time, fight against wrong and hostile viewpoints; actively participate in the fight against corruption and negativity; overcome the situation of pure information and mere entertainment tools; constantly arouse and encourage the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country, the will to overcome difficulties and challenges, and optimism, self-reliance, self-reliance, and national pride; build and promote the great national unity bloc, creating a driving force for the country's development.
At the same time, it is necessary to enhance cultural values in journalistic works. Journalistic works must constantly preserve and promote ethical values and Vietnamese cultural identity; shape and spread cultural standards of behavior in society, contributing to building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of building and defending the Fatherland in the new period.
Along with that, the press strongly promotes digital transformation and innovation; revolutionary press information must truly become the mainstream information in the digital space. Press agencies need to clearly define goals and roadmaps, implement digital transformation strongly and with specific results; focus on promoting all factors in the stages of digital transformation of the press; focus on training human resources on digital platforms, human resources in professional expertise. In particular, pay attention to researching the public and product forms that are attractive, highly interactive, and widely spread among the public, especially the young public.
The 2023 National Press Awards attracted 1,905 entries, of which 1,827 qualified according to regulations. The preliminary judging process was carried out seriously, strictly, in accordance with the Guidelines and Regulations of the Awards Council. The 11 Subcommittees of the Preliminary Judging Council worked impartially, completed the preliminary judging on time, and achieved good quality.
The Final Round judging process was carried out in accordance with the Award Charter and the working regulations and voting procedures of the Award Council. Of the 165 works entered into the final round, the Council discussed, evaluated and voted to select 10 A prizes; 26 B prizes; 45 C prizes and 41 Encouragement prizes to award the 18th National Press Awards.
The Hanoi Journalists Association has two works that won the B prize and the Encouragement prize. The Economic & Urban Newspaper has a work that won the B prize, a series of articles called “The “copper citadels” in the Southwestern border” by a group of authors Nguyen Cao Cuong, Nguyen Van Thang, and Nguyen Ngoc Chung.
