Hanoi strengthens education on drowning prevention skills for students

Kinhtedothi - Hanoi People's Committee has issued Plan No. 54/KH-UBND on implementing Decision No. 1717/QD-TTg dated December 31, 2024 of the Prime Minister on approving the Program to enhance education on knowledge and skills to prevent and combat drowning for students in the period 2025-2035.


Accordingly, the Plan sets a target that by 2030, 70% of students will be taught knowledge and practice skills to prevent drowning and reach 90% by 2035; at least 55% of grade 5 students, 65% of grade 9 students and 75% of grade 12 students will know how to swim safely; by 2035, at least 70% of grade 5 students, 80% of grade 9 students and 90% of grade 12 students will know how to swim safely.

By 2030, at least 20% of primary schools, 15% of middle schools and high schools will have swimming pools (fixed or mobile) and maintain effective operations; 50% of communes, wards and towns will have at least one swimming pool to serve the safe swimming teaching of children and students in the area.

By 2035, at least 30% of primary schools, 25% of middle schools and high schools will have swimming pools (fixed or mobile) and maintain effective operations. 70% of communes, wards and towns will have at least one swimming pool to serve the safe swimming instruction for children and students in the area.

The program is implemented in general schools, vocational education centers - continuing education centers throughout the city and in commune-level communities (where swimming pools are invested to serve the education of knowledge and skills to prevent drowning for students in the area).
