On the afternoon of May 12, at The World ArtSpace – 21 Vo Truong Toan, Thao Dien Ward (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), the solo exhibition Peaceful Day by artist Lam Duc Manh (running until May 28) opened, displaying 32 paintings in two categories: landscapes and especially young female figures.
The artist's landscape paintings are often about Hanoi streets, reflected in many works: Autumn in West Lake, Autumn on the Street, Afternoon in Co Loa, Phan Dinh Phung Street, Hoang Dieu Street... or the mountainous, coastal, and rural areas he lived and passed through such as Spring in Ha Giang, Moc Chau Mist ...

Lam Duc Manh's paintings still exude the romantic, lyrical quality of New Poetry in every stroke of the brush. "I am not good at drawing images (images in the most common sense - PV) or arranging motifs. But as Hoai Thanh wrote in Vietnamese Poet : reducing a bit of sharpness to add a bit of vagueness and mystery... so the weakness is actually a strength. I draw images, find images in a broad sense and it is the whole picture", the artist confided.

Finding the prototypes of many of the artist's paintings of young women in ao dai that captivated the public is a mystery. The artist said that the characters sometimes appear specifically in real life, sometimes just a silhouette, a fleeting beauty, or maybe they met one day, at that time it was just a real-life story, but at night, when standing in front of the easel, the character's silhouette appears in a fresh scene as if he were still sitting there in front of the artist.
Lam Duc Manh's paintings still exude the romantic, lyrical qualities of New Poetry filled in every brushstroke.
"Many people commented that my paintings often use white and pure white, and looking back, I found that to be true. There are many explanations, but I jokingly say that I love white - from white ao dai to the white skin of young girls. I love life, love the many colors of nature and people with a pure, romantic eye, and thanks to that, I find or aim for peace in my spiritual life," artist Lam Duc Manh confided.
