The report shows that Ukraine has become the world's largest arms importer, accounting for 8.8% of global imports. Nearly half of Ukraine's weapons imports come from the United States.
The United States remains the world's leading arms exporter, accounting for 43% of the global market share, up from 35% in 2015-2019. Washington's arms exports are equivalent to the combined market share of the next eight largest exporters. The United States also supplied more than 50% of Europe's arms imports in 2020-2024.
Europe accounted for 28% of total global arms imports, up sharply from 11% in the 2015-2019 period. NATO member states in Europe increased their arms imports by 105% compared to the previous five years.
France, the second-largest arms exporter, accounts for 9.6% of the global market share and has tripled its exports to Europe compared to 2015-2019, largely thanks to Rafale fighter jet contracts with Greece and Croatia.
Meanwhile, Russia's share of global arms exports fell to 7.8%, down from 21% in the previous period. Asian and Oceanian countries reduced their arms imports by 21%, largely due to China's push to increase domestic arms production.
