According to PhoneArena , the report comes from a Foxconn employee in a conversation with Chinese publication IT Home , when this person revealed the exact battery sizes for all four members of the iPhone 15 series. While the standard model has a battery increase of nearly 18% and the highest, the Pro Max model also has a battery increase of 12%.
Battery capacity increased by up to 18% allowing iPhone 15 series to last up to 3 days of use
PHONEARENA SCREENSHOT
If accurate, that could be the most significant improvement to the iPhone 15 series. However, the source's accuracy is 80%, especially since reports suggest Apple will use the same chassis for the iPhone 15 series, meaning it's unclear how the company will be able to fit those larger batteries.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max have both been leaders in battery life compared to other high-end phones over the past few years, so the increased battery capacity along with a more efficient chip will give the iPhone 15 series an even bigger advantage over its competitors.
In case the battery size rumors are correct, here are the possible numbers:
- iPhone 15: 3,877 mAh (up 18% from 3,279 mAh on iPhone 14)
- iPhone 15 Pro: 3,650 mAh (14% increase compared to 3,200 mAh on iPhone 14 Pro)
- iPhone 15 Plus: 4,912 mAh (14% increase compared to 4,325 mAh on iPhone 14 Plus)
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4,852 mAh (12% increase compared to 4,323 mAh on iPhone 14 Pro Max)
The data suggests these are big improvements, especially for the standard iPhone 15, which could have a larger battery than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 currently on sale gets around 6 hours of screen-on time on average, and the new change could see that bump up to 7 hours on the iPhone 15.
The iPhone 15 Plus and 15 Pro Max models are also getting a big battery life boost. Currently, most people will get around 2 days of average use between charges, but that could be up to 3 days with the new battery sizes. This is even better when looking at the 3nm A17 Bionic chip that will be in the high-end models, which promises a 35% improvement in power efficiency over the A16 Bionic.
Besides, with all iPhone 15 series members switching from Lightning to USB-C port, Apple can completely increase their charging speed with chargers with higher capacity than current.
